Gaming PC Build

Ok, so here's my current list for my gaming pc build ;

OCZ 750w PSU
Advance 8808KP tower
8gb Exceleram Rippler DDR RAM (2x 4GB)
Intel Core i5 2500 3.4 GHz quad core
Asus P5G41T-M LX 90 Mobo (not too sure on this yet)
Cheap Samsung drive
GTX 580 graphics card (getting this for a quarter of the retail price from a friend)

Opinions on it, what would you change?

Dont think the board will work try a...MSI Z68A-G43-G3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard or similar. £100 ish but will be great for an upgrade to SSD in the future.

go for the i5 2500k that will overclock the i5 2500 wont

combine it with a z68 motherboard

I'm not really interested in overclocking at the minute, just trying to get a decent gaming rig on a budget ; just over £300 was my last total.

Edit: The RAM speed looks to be 1600MHz.

?? a gtx 580 will set you back more than that

my bad just read the bit in brackets

and to be honest i would still go for the k as its only £2 more

Around the £330 mark would be nice, I don't get to save much ; maybe about £15 every week.

I can recycle a hard drive, monitor, keyboard and mouse from the old desktop.

I'm a bit worried at that build, it seems more money for less parts. My friend who advised me on a lot of it is adamant on a 750 w PSU as well as the i5 2500.

Well yes an i5 2500K is better, but not really in budget!? Its at least £60 more.

Min recommened PSU for a 580 is 600W, so a good quality 650W will be plenty. If you plan on SLI at all then 850W.

On that build, yes.

On the one I have in front of me ; £304 in total. Plus or minus a tad more, since I need to get a different motherboard on that list.

What motherboard are you planning on? Also, get a 2500K if youre going for an i5

At the minute, I've got a Biostar H61MGC down, I've seen contrasting info on compatibility with the processor though.

Dont know anything about that sorry. H61 doesn't have SATA 6Gbps (only need for SSD) and won't be able to overclock a 2500K

For my first build, I'm not fussed about overclocking... yet.

Since I'm on a tight budget for now, I just want my gaming rig all done ; then I can consider changing out and upgrading.

Okay. Just don't get a cheap PSU - OCZ are usually good though.

Edit: Would it be worth going with a different processor and different build entirely?
