Normally yes. But when you can only have so many cards, and want the best performance possible at 4K for a certain budget... then you want to eke out as much FPS as you can. So in this case, the 290X makes a bit more sense to me, personally.

Try a spec with dual 780 6GB but capable of running triple. You may come up with something closer to budget than I did.

This is pretty interesting. There isn't THAT much of a gap between R9 290 crossfire and R9 290X crossfire at 4K according to the link below.

So maybe a couple of R9 290's or a couple of 780's would suffice.

That gpu is triple slot I think 6GB cards are a bit of a waste. I would stick with a regular gpu.

That's crazy close even at 4K, 'cept for Tomb Raider but even then the 290 is close enough to 60 FPS anyway.

I was surprised when i read it. I was expecting at least 10-15fps gap between 290cf and 290x cf.
