hey guys I'm looking to get the bairn a pc for santa coming. my budget is 700 I don't need a monitor so it's just the base unit.

he will be doing mostly gaming and school work so if you guys wouldn't mind speccing a rig. Much Appreciated.

a case with some lighting would be a plus :)

Res will be max 1920x1080 and yes a mouse and keyboard will be required however i can spend upto 750 max.

hello, how about something like this for your son? don't know what games he plays, but you can't go too wrong with an i5 processor whether its locked or not, 8gb ram is enough for most gaming and certainly enough for general tasks, case is down to choice, but you can't go too wrong with a SFF type system and this looks a real nice case, the graphics card is a very good one, can save a few quid on another card with 2gb vram, but 4gb vram would be better money spent if its in the budget, but you have a good power supply if you require more powerful.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £749.55
(includes shipping: £11.70)

oh just realised the budget is 700, my bad, either lower the card to a 360/370 or even a gtx 950) or cut back on the hard drives if only the one would be useful?

that would be a good way to spend Christmas morning but if something didn't go right ie a faulty part I would feel so bad that his present wasn't up and running for him on the day.

that's for the info crashNburn is a skylake cpu worth going for for a little future proofing or is it just over kill. i'll definitely be going i5 route just not sure on the socket yet.

I can reach 750 if needed but rather not if I can, I don't need windows as I have a spare 8.1 key which will get a free upgrade to 10 anyways. are the stock coolers upto much for the cpu, just ive never ever used a stock cooler before?

This should tick most of your boxes. :)

Can be overclocked, has a powerful GPU, SSD and 2TB HDD wrapped in a nice case which I'm sure your son would like the look of!
CPU comes without a stock cooler to save some £'s to afford a better aftermarket if in the future you plan to overclock.

RAM is a bargain for 8GB @ 2400Mhz.

thanks guys I'm gonna order that spec tonight (ThaReaperGuy) cant wait to see his face. he has been after a gaming pc for some time now and ive finally decided on getting him one.

cheers guys

"He will be mostly gaming"

That kit doesn't cut it for modern games at all.

It's all relative, and children are pretty forgiving. I made use of crap PCs for most of my childhood before being able to afford a proper spec in my late teens and still loved them.

Anyway off topic.. ThaReaperGuy's is spot on and will no doubt be well received.
