Hi Guys,

Looking to build my first pc, purely for gaming & internet surfing

I've got a budget of £1000 and I will need windows included but I have all peripherals already. Ideally, I'd like to be able to upgrade in the future but would also like the PC to be on the quieter side of things (my mechanical keyboard is bad enough according to the mrs)

Can anyone help me to spec out the best gaming rig with that in mind? All the parts look the same to me & I have no clue what the good deals are.

Dave

Hi and welcome,

So you are saying you want and are able to build it yourself rather than a pre-built one?

What resolution is your monitor?

Here is one spec,

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,004.82
(includes shipping: £0.00)

• The board supports Crossfire and SLI and does so at 8X/8X, so if you add a 2nd card they get equal bandwidth.
• PSU will power a pair of R9 390s easily.

Or a pure single powerful card setup,

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,028.82
(includes shipping: £0.00)

thanks for your help stulid.

To answer your questions - I'd like to build the pc myself as I have always bought off the shelf systems before and want to get a bit more for my money this time. I've watched a few youtube videos and it looks fairly simple as long as you don't fry the motherboard!

My monitor is 21" @ 1920 x 1080, I'll likely upgrade it in the near future.

Are the radeon graphics cards significantly better than an equivalently priced Nvidia card? There seems to be a lot of talk about the new nvidia pascal range coming later this year and I'd rather be able to dual nvidia cards at that time unless the current range is considerably worse than the radeon.

The R9 390 is better than the GTX970 while generally being cheaper plus they have double the amount of Vram.

The R9 Fury is a touch better than the GTX980, that one by XFX is on a special offer (look at its price VS the other Fury cards).

There are new Pascal cards rumored for June time, no idea on how they will perform or what price segment they will come in at.

But generally a 390 or Fury will eat 1080P and 1440P resolution monitors.
