In particular, CSS

my rig:
AMD 3700+ @ stock
2gb DDR Ram
Asrock Dual - using onboard audio Realtek Ac97
X1800xt

Right, in css with the details all at high, NO AA AND NO AF. I get between 50-100 fps.

i mean, come on, i was expecting a whole lot more than that. The drops to 40-50 fps are very noticable. What could it be? I thought this spec would be more than enough to get the game running nice.

It should be enough seeing as your spec is better than mine and I get 60fps with everything maxed out at 800x600 on HL2DM, have you tried turning on vsync so you dont see the drop in fps?

is it on a clean install etc? hardware looks ok, what res you playing in? may well be software issues, what do you normally have running? i sometimes find certain ATI datalyst revisions work very badly on certain cards causing low fps, although x1800xt isnt really what id term as an old card so i doubt its that :]

i game at 1280x1024. was a fresh install when i installed the hardware. it seemed ok at that start, and has slowly deteriorated.

I had the cpu @ 2.6ghz, didn't seem to make a difference. I'll check Vsync

I get the same really, and as you can sig from my sig my PC should be more than enough to keep the FPS abovie 60 at all times surely?

I play on the exact same settings as you too.

General gaming has been a bit of a disappointment for me on this rig, to be honest.

yeh, the slowdown is very noticable.

Extremely annoying considering a game like company of heroes play nice on my comp. Yet it looks 100 times better than CSS does. But i play CSS competatively, and thought this upgrade would mean I can play it with the trimmings on
