Hi everyone, i am having a problem with my new set up, (and everything seemed to be going so well....)
basically, i have been playing games with no problems since i got my gpu about 4 days ago but twice now, during games, a load of white dots have appeared on the screen pretty much covering it so that i have to stop playing. they have appeared both times whilst i was playing Crysis, but appear for all games after that. The first time it happened, i restarted system and it was ok, but then after another 1/2 hour of Crysis, it happened again.
it only happens in games. Video, browsing etc is fine.
I imagine this is a GPU problem but not sure, what do you think i should do? is it faulty?

these are my specs:
Phenom ii x4 965 be
Asus m4a88td-v evo mobo
MSI ATI Radeon HD 5850 Twin FrozR II 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
samsung spinpoint f3 1tb
4gb corsair xms3 ram
antec truepower new modular 650w psu
cooler master elite 430 windowed case
windows 7 ultimate

(nothing overclocked)

thank you

certainly sounds like a faulty GPU.

Did you uninstall the previous graphics card drivers completely?

If you have access to another graphics card, stick that in your machine and see if it runs ok....if it does then contact wherever you bought the 5850 from and request and RMA.

Yeah, I know someone who bought that 5850 Twin frozr and kept getting artifacts too during games. Lots of people seem to have issues with it.

90% a GPU issue.

I thought it probably was. I bought it from OC so i'll contact them in the morning.
i just wondered if there was some setting or something that i had missed as it has problems with all 3d apps but all 2d is fine.

Is this a problem with this card generally?
Do you think a replacement would be alright or should i maybe go for a different card?
if so, any recommendations?

that would rule out crossfire somewhere down the line if iever wanted to. probably won't but nice to have the option.
What do we think is the best ATI card for around £160?
