guys after looking trough all the topics about high resolutions, i just want some help deciding on a card.

ok i have a 17 inch monitor and max resolution is 1024 x 768 and tbh im happy with that i dont want a new monitor as i like the one i have oh and its a TFT not a big CRT lol. oh and i dont really bother with AA its never really attracted me.

what graphics card would u say would do for me. ive been looking at the 8800GT but after reading some topics about it on here im like "no that might be a problem" or "its not good enough" and tbh im totally confused

so please any help would be great

Got a budget in mind?

Although at that res you probably wont need that powerful gfx card especially considering the res and you don't want massive amounts of AA so something like a X3850 would probably handle any games out fine, certainly wouldn't spend any more than a 8800GT as your most likely if at all be bottlenecked by your cpu.

i can buy a GT i have the money but its the future games im worried about

put it this way, my mate is very happy with the way Oblivion and HL2:Episode2 runs at 1024x768 on his X800Pro!

At that rez the GT will see you as well as any current card can into future games, and for current games will enable high levels of AA (which you will want at that rez).

If that is your system build you're going to build in your sig then if your thinking about a decent card then at least get a decent monitor to support the new card as I think @ 1024x768 A GT, GTS or GTX would be wasted.

I'm not saying to get one right away as you'll be forking out for the parts as well as xmas just being around the corner but I would seriously consider it with such a nice system on the way ;).

First link is a great LCD screen and the other 3 links are good options for graphic cards.

If you don't care about AA/AF then I'd go with the GT as the GTS and GTX are better for it with the GTX being the best. Good luck with the new system. Doing one myself soon too :).

Tbh anythign would be fine o nthat low res without any kind of AA! My X850 XT is fine with source engined stuff at 1650 x 1080 with some AA/AF so im sure anything around that would do you for a while!

Simply put you may as well go for an ATI 3850 512MB. Even if you don't like ATI, with your current screen res, anything more expensive will be wasted, as the 3850, is still more than capable of playing anything very very well at 1024x768, including Crysis on respectable settings.

3870/8800GT etc are all more money, and you won't really see a benefit, not to mention they also have higher power demands.

yeah nVidia are normally faster, but very so often ATI will produce a king of the hill card (e.g. 9700Pro). But they normally always provide a good VFM card with performance.
