Guys,

1. What resolution do you game at?
2. Is this res. determined by your gfx card, or do you determine your gfx card according to the res. you WANT to game at?
3. Do most new games accommodate widscreen resolutions without the need for patching or game fixing?

Thanks for your answers.

1) 1680x1050, (most people do as this is the native resolution on 20-22'' monitors)
2) It's determined by the monitor really, if you run at anything other than the native resolution on an LCD monitor the picture looks fuzzy
3) Yes

hi k.jacko

i play at 1600 x 1050 resolution on a 22" widescreen and love it

most new games do support widescreen resolutions like cod4 crysis, games like battlefield 2 and battlefield 2142 dont have options in the game options settings but you can bypass it quite easily.

i would say yes your graphics card is main factor to what res you can play it with the best quality to what you need. in my opinion that is!

like a 8800 gt is great but once you hit high resolutions it lacks quality compared to a 8800 gts and so on so forth.

I play at 1400x900 but sometimes drop it down to 1280x800, which does not really make it fuzzy for me, I guess that depends on your monitor scaling?

yeah, thanks guys.
Basically (as i've mentioned in threads previous to this). I'm building 3 new gaming rigs for the kids.
c2d, 2gb ram , etc
Am getting HD3870's and 19"tft widescreen monitors.
Question: is the 3870 overkill for 1440x990 (native res. for 19")? I would think not as it will let me have 1440 x 900 with all settings on high and possibly AA as well.
Someone suggested the cheaper 3850.
I've not fully made up my mind yet, but i'm leaning towards the 3870s because i will be overclocking the E2180's to the max, and don't really want to oc the gfx card.

Yup, some monitors are better at downscaling than others...and of course quality is also a subjective thing.
