Gaming rig for a grand?

Don't think you will fit that H100i in the Bitfenix case. I would look at a cheaper cooler like the raijintek themis.

I came up with this. (Notice no Ram - see below)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Powercolor Radeon R9 280X TurboDUO 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £229.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £179.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £139.99
1 x IIyama Prolite E2473HS 24" Widescreen LED Monitor - Black £129.95
1 x Crucial MX100 256GB SATA 2.5” 7mm SSD + 9.5mm Adapter (CT256MX100SSD1) £79.99
1 x BitFenix Ronin Tower Case - Black £69.95
1 x NZXT Hale Power 90+ 550W '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply £43.99
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler £29.99
1 x CM Storm Devastator Gaming Bundle - USB Keyboard & Mouse £29.99
Total : £964.37 (includes shipping : £25.45).

A few points to note:

The i5 4690K is currently pre-order and has a ETA of 23rd June. If you don't want to wait then go for the i5 4670K.

The Gigabyte Gaming 7 board in my spec is currently shipping with 8GB Free Ram, but it is out of stock ATM. I would check with OCUK about availability, and if the offer is still on with the new stock. If not you will need to add ram and possibly a different board if it goes over budget.

The NZXT is a good budget psu, although it isn't modular. That shouldn't be an issue in the Ronin. Also the case has a stealth cover, so it should hide most of the psu and cables.

The Alpenfohn cooler is enough for the i5 for decent overclocks. The new chips will run cooler as well.

Changed the 22" for a 24" monitor.

OK, had a shuffle of components based on the above advice. Managed to squeeze the Devils Canyon i7 in to the build for future proofing, now I have this:

In my opinion: better an i5-K and a good monitor, than an i7-K and a subpar monitor. If it's for gaming. And that monitor only has VGA. At least get something with HDMI, if not DVI and Display Port.

Yeah, id drop back to the i5 and get a 24" monitor, maybe you could squeeze a 144hz one in too. :)

I'd also get the 280X, but that's just me.

GFX card easily, all you need is the actual card (PSU has power cables and drivers can be downloaded)

B grade monitor could have damaged screen, a missing important cable or worse I have seen in another thread a missing stand.

Edit, not a missing stand but missing screws to put the two together.

Arrrrrgh! OK, so what motherboard do I swap to to be able to get 8GB memory and stay around that price point :(

Gaming 3 which still comes with a free headset.

Then pick fast 2133/2400MHz Red coloured RAM.
