Posted this in GD "items you purchased" thread but wana put it in here and tank Stulid and the others for the help.
Just finished the build. Installing now but this:
Now looks like this:
And the screen... Holy crap, when I pulled it out the box I didnt think it would be so big (pliers for scale)
Just installing stuff and making sure it all works but it booted first time so I aint forgot what I am doing since my last build 8 years ago Will get some better pics up in the build section later when I have tidied up the external stuff
Thanks to Stulid and others for the help in speccing it
Looks nice but you might want to have the coolers fan on the other side blowing through the heatsink and firing air at that rear case fan which is pulling air out the case?
There are arrows moulded in the side of the fan frame showing direction of rotation and direction of air flow.
Notice that the fan has a nice looking side, that is the side to have facing out.
Also, check the BIOS is upto date, early BIOS versions used a bit too much vcore at stock for the CPUs, so that will help reduce temps if its outdated. Only use Qflash found within the BIOS to do the update.
I moved the fan late last night. Never noticed a "nice side" to it. I just positioned it so the cable was going out the bottom next to the CPU Fan header and fed the slack cable out the back.
Will have a look at the BIOS update. I updated and installed everything else and forgot about the BIOS
I put the SSD in the internal bay for this reason. Also makes the cable management neater
Also love the fact its so quiet. The GPU fans are off when just browsing etc. I hit the "cooldown" option on the MSI App to make sure they work tho
This mechanical KB is taking getting used to.... sometimes hit the wrong keys too easy when typing
I appreciate the setup tweaks guys
Will have a chance to play some games tomorrow when I am off but, so far, this thing is amazing although it wouldnt be hard coming from a VERY OLD laptop - Celeron M410 (1.4GHz), 2GB RAM and onboard GFX and 15" screen LOL... This thing couldnt play Youtube vids without stuttering or it would crash if too many Chrome tabs open!!! LOL
Ideal. Wasnt aware I had to do that to get things running properly. I'll have a good look through the BIOS and update things tomorrow... Work has got in the way of my fun today and out tonight
I am off all day tomorrow and got nothing else planned so will have a proper go at things then
Basically if you look at the memory tab of CPU-Z now it probably says 800MHz (1600 effective as its DDR RAM).
Yet look at the SPD tab and it will show you one or two XMP profiles and their speed+timings.
So go back to the BIOS and do the XMP thing, then have a look again at the memory tab and it will now say 1200Mhz (2400 effective) and the timings etc will be the same as one of the columns in the SPD tab.
