I'm planning to buy one or 2 components every 2 weeks, that way i can afford a really expensive gaming rig while only spending my comminsion.

So any suggestions. I quickly popped onto overclockers and put this together so something similar to this. Will be my first big build :)

looks like your spending for the sake of it. Theres a few dodgy things in that spec, i suggest your research things a little more.

e.g.OcUK GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail OcUK GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £149.99
(£176.24) £449.97

This is the slower version of the GTS than the 8800GTS 512mb, theres no point in getting two GTS 320s in SLI as the performance just dosnt merit the price.

Better off buying an 8800gts 512mb(faster), an 8800gtx, or two 8800gt's (512mb).

The physX accelerator is widely accepted as a waste of money, as theres few games that support its use and even then increase in FPS isnt always good.

1TB hard drives have a huge price hike up as there the "cutting edge" technology. Buy 2x 500gb hard drives and save money.

Id not go with a SLI motherboard and instead opt for a p35 based motherboard, because SLI just isnt that great at the moment.

I'm pretty sure that PSU is overkill, people will start yelling at you to get a corsair 620w instead soon, which are popular for a reason.

What you you need the blueray rewriter for ?
Any chance you could state the builds intended purpose (guessing gaming).

Cheers for the reply.

The rig will be used for gaming mainly but also video editing and programming.

Web development.

I have overkilled a little just to see the worst possible price for me.

As for the physx card i'll leave it and thank you for the advise on the 8800, i purely added the 620mb as i heard they were better but after searching this site (which i find to be believable!) it seams your right so i will opt for the 512mb ones instead.

SLI is something i would like to do and also overclocking.

And before anyone shouts at me for the PSU it was recommended, if someone has a better one let me know!

I did say i was open to options. If you think the cart is c*ap and want to help me please feel free :)

I don;t bite.

The blueray writer i want ro a HD writer as i will be burning off HD quality film soon and also using it for some other bits and pieces. Although i really only need a BD player not as much a writer.

As for *** TB Hdd's i was planning to Raid them because ive managed t fill 750gb as it is. Its just the TB hdd's will sort that out.

Anyway as i said any help is appriciated and as the build develops then better components or better combo's may appear so i'm not goingt o rush it through yet.

Well I'd certainly stay clear of the tr-sli you seem to be planning there, I've yet to see any benchies for it and sli doesn't scale fantastically a lot of the time anyway. You might be better with an x38 board and 2 hd3870x2's if you want to go mad as crossfire seems to scale much better.

And you'll certainly need more than 1 rad if you're intending on cooling everything with water...

The spec is great if you have the money.

Tri-SLI is still at early stage so the driver is not mature enough to give the intended performance increase from single card solution, as have been tested by fellow forum members. Tbh at that resolution 1 8800GTS 512mb is probably enough, you can always get another one or two later for SLI.

If you want the very best performance consider the WD Raptor 150Gb as well.

Why Belinea? If you are spending this kind of cash at least get a monitor that has DVI interface.

Was gonna suggest a X-fi if you are using it for gaming but I assume you need the sound card for professional purposes?

Razer lachesis, read up on that first... i have one and it has a lot of problems!!
Cursor jumps ect, it works kinda ok on a desk surface but not very smooth moving its choppy!!

i have a black icemat too its smooth as hell on there BUT it makes the cursor jump to random places on the screen pretty often too.. not the best thing for a gamer!!

they're hopefully going to have it fixed with new firmware but it could be a while or maybe not at all..

i'd go with a razer deathadder or something...

Razer headset is good, once you get the settings right on the sound card!!

nice rig though, always something i've wanted to do lol

save up the money and then buy something, too many updates in the pc world to buy part by part, 3 months down the line you will see a new graphics card and find it isnt compatible with your mobo etc...

save then buy :)

And if i am correct in saying that tri-sli is only for GTX and Ultra cards.

Is it even possible to add three graphic cards and a physx card to the same mobo?

2x OcUK GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 and then if tri-sli gets better opt for another.

Do you really need 8GB, isn't that going to make it harder to overclock.

And the penryn 8500 for a overclocking gaming machine, which are just around the corner.

What am thinking about upgrading too...

1x Penryn 8500 CPU
1x EVGA nForce 780i SLI nForce 780i - - ETA: 18/01/08
2x G.Skill 2GB DDR2 PK PC2-6400C4 (2x1GB);
CAS Latency : 4-4-4-12 (PC2-6400)
Test Voltage : 1.9-2.0 V
or 1x Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz [quote; 1066Mhz but with 4-4-4-12 2T timings!]

deffo better memory for head room on the oc front.

Ok so ive got a lot to think about.

As for buying component by component, i am planning to buy the case, psu, hard drives and dvd-rw drives over the net three months then buy the mobo, ram, cpu ect in one go.

Its only the bits that wont change i will buy now.

You would be better off putting your commission in the bank and THEN buying stuff when you have enough set aside. The prices on computer components constantly fluctuate and i imagine that things like, for example, the graphics card will be 10% cheaper or more by the time you've actually bought all of the bits.

In three months i am pretty certain the case and PSU will have dropped in price, also hard drives are always getting cheaper. To buy components and have them sit there unused while their value falls just seems a bit mad to me.

£3k on any rig is excessive i think!

for that you can get the new mac pro with the 8800GT card, install windows and have the perfect setup for video editing/AdobeCS3
