I have a velociraptor its impossible to quantify the speed (but i think its REALLY fast, especially with loading vista). As for the sound its no more noticable than the wd cavalier 640gig (used as my media/linux drive) and they arnt noticeable during general use :) (the only thing that is, is the the 2 case fans but thats because they are on max....)

I have a 4870 too which is pretty awesome! (i dont really see a need for more than one...)

well i ahve a raptor 150 and its fast yea, but the noise is so anoying so i thought id have a moan about it lol. not sure if the veloci was just a remake of the raptor but bigger? probably not, mabye a few tweaks. either way 4870's!!!! :D

And in normal home uses 1TB Samsung F1 and WD Caviar Black are practically equal to Raptors so I don't see benefit in paying that much more for much smaller capacity.

The Velociraptor crushes those and its a lot quieter than the Raptor X as well.

crap access time tho so loading into games will be pants and it only just beats a single raptor
Yeah it's the loading times which I notice the most, Windows booting and loading games in general is a lot faster on the raptor.

You might gain about 5-7 seconds when booting and 2-4 when loading games.

...............

Only noticeable advantage of a Velociraptor is access times and those are miles better on a SSD. For the price of one Velociraptor you can get a 32GB SSD (for the OS) and a 1TB drive.

Think I'm going to stick with the Velociraptor - I want the HD to last me a long time just like my current raptor has, I like to have my OS and games all in one HD too so a SSD is out of the question really. I don't mind spending a bit more on the HD as it's one component I'd like to last a few years.

With the graphics card, I don't mind changing them more often. My 4850 is pending sale now anyway so depending on the price of the 4870x2's I'll either go for one of them or 2 x 4870's. I may even go all out and order 2 x 4870x2's :D

What RAM would be a better choice?

The one listed in the original post or -

OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Reaper HPC Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2RPR10664GK)

Also, is the Enermax 1kW PSU or Corsair 1KW PSU the better choice?

I've got a Corsair now and it's excellent but I've heard the 1KW version is made by a different manufacture than the 520W version I have? Seems to be a lot more positive reviews on the Enermax Galaxy...
