Definately :D

AMD 940 Black CPU
AMD 4850 Graphics
Antec 300 Case
2 or 4GB Memory
etc

would this not be a better cpu for the price?and i think for £450 your gunna have trouble making a gaming rig like that. im building one and it comes to £600. thats going for the cheapest parts i can get away with. dont forget the psu will be around £80. not to mention fans, cases, cpu coolers, they all add up. so much that i had to ditch most of them in my rig

Well I just built a gaming rig for my bro for £323 so it can easilly be done. All parts from Overclockers too. :)

AMD 940 Black isnt a AM3 socket Cpu, it's AM2+

Will post a spec after

edit: Hows this, tenner over budget I know but you could always swap the ram for something slightly cheaper.

You could maybe also get a slower Cpu and buy an aftermarket cooler and Oc It, not sure if that would be cheaper alternative?

I'm assuming you don't need an OS and monitor/peripherals:

That would be a sweet budget gaming rig, would run COD4 very well.

If you need an OS too, change the graphics for a 4850, get something like an E2200 CPU, smaller HD and more basic case. If you need a monitor then it's not really doable for £450.

Heres another spec with slower Cpu, it's cheaper than £450 which leaves you money to either upgrade one of the parts, or buy an Os, don't forget you could always use Windows 7 release candidate until June next year, that should give you plenty of time to save up to buy it.

This would be an awsome gaming rig, and lots of future upgrade potential. AM3 socket and crossfire capable. Not to mention DDR3.

But it has a slow graphics card, a small HD and a dubious PSU, just for the sake of going AM3.

Just proving it could be done ;) the 4850's a capable card unless your running high resolutions (plus the option to add a second later pretty cheaply). Hard drives are easilly added later (besides who needs a tetrabyte really? I use just over 100Gig on my system). Admittidly I'd spend an extra £15 and get a better PSU, but ive used hipers before without any problems :)

I like Mattus's spec above, but TBH which is easier to upgrade later a CPU with a new socket design or an extra graphics card?

A 4830 is more than capable of running Cod4 on the highest settings with a decent resolution.

My cousin has an Athlon (Not sure which model with no Oc), 2gb Ram, and a 7000 series nVidia graphics card (Not sure which one) and his Pc runs Cod4 on highest settings with at least a reolution of 1290x1024 (Possibly higher).

yeah, the 4830 (my sig) is more of a beast of a card than people give it credit for, mine oc's to 700/1125 and is almost the speed of a 4850 and idles at 35C, load 55C. I had a 7950gt before my 4830 and it ran Cod4 on max at 1440x900

Thanks for the replys guys...some nice looking specs there. I think im probably going to go down the intel road rather than amd,you sure 450w psu is enough to handle a 4870?...il prob make a mess of the build, but i suppose every1 has to start somewhere

+1

Looks awesome, just clock the hell out of the CPU

you 100% sure a 450 psu is enough?

Maybe go with the OCZ one suggested a bit earlier. Its cheaper as well...

Although if you can afford it, i'd say go for a 650 Be quiet, it will also not likely need to be upgraded anytime soon.

Correct me if im wrong :)

I have an 850W Coolermaster Real Power Pro myself. SLI certified and all that balls. Basically it can handle a heavy multi GPU setup. So like i said, its the one component in my rig that i will not be looking to upgrade for a hell of a long time... Unless i have a lot of money to burn or something.... ?
