Hi guys,

I am a first time poster on Overclockers and i want to undertake my first computer build. As im in to gaming and also do a lot of work is CAD and other construction related programs. Been stalking the forum a lot recently to come up with a spec which will suit me however i have not made any head way as of yet. The aim is about £1000 budget in total, I have put in what i would like to be included; however you guys might have a better idea. If there is a better spec with amd cards, please throw it up on the thread.

I would also like to have a case which will allow me to be able to upgrade it in the future and will allow me enough room to work with and decent cable management.

What i want in my computer spec:
AMD piledriver FX-8 8350 (or better)
NVIDIA GTX 770 (or better, I have gone off amd cards due to bad experiences)
I have also gotten a Hyper X kingston ssd kit (meant for my current computer but opted not to install it) £0.00.
The stuff i don't have a grasp on:
Case
PSU
Motherboard
Low profile Ram 16/24gb
Additional cooling where needed
OS
2nd HHD (7200RPM) 1TB+

Thanks,

Liam

Hi guys, thanks for the systems so far. I was wondering if it would be slightly easier to get the pre-built mother board, processor, ram, etc. as me and heat sink don't get along well.
In relation to cases my gaming buddies reconmended;

I have a certain fondness of NZXT Phantom range and the H440.

Any more guidance you guys can provide would be welcomed.

the only thing i have a problem with, is that my last 2 amd graphic cards have had the same problem with software, however there was no faults found by me or the amd team. Where as the GTX i currently have has worked well without any problems.

AMD graphics card kept uninstalling the graphics driver and reinstalling it. Then it kept malfunctioning with the motherboard, claiming it was unable to detect the card existed.

Looking at the price ranges and some performance in terms of money, what would a build with AMD FX 9590 4.7GHz as my processor look like?

Instead of a 4770k? not a clever move. It would perform worse, have little overclocking headroom and would need a substantial cooler to keep it stable.

Instead of a 8320/8350? A waste of £90/£110.. Its the same chip but overclocked.

for a cad/gaming rig, you'd probably want something like this (granted its 20% overbudget lol)

YOUR BASKET
1 x OcUK Geforce GTX 780 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £359.99
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £249.95
1 x Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB (4x4GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Quad Channel Kit (KHX24C11T3K4/16X) £139.99
1 x Crucial M500 240GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive - (CT240M500SSD1) £89.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87-HD3 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £82.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00614) £74.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £59.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £49.99
1 x Zalman Z3-Plus Midi-Tower - Black £39.95
1 x Antec Kúhler H2O 650 Liquid CPU Cooler £29.99
1 x LiteOn IHAS124-14 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £14.99
Total : £1,202.40 (includes shipping : £8.00).

4770k + cooler
16gb ram
forego sli/xfire to save some cash (from the mobo and psu)
cheaper case (decent build quality, and 5 fans included!)
256gb ssd
if your cad programmes support opencl gpu acceleration (<- pretty important point actually, don't just get a radeon because its cheaper), you could save some $$$ by getting an amd radeon 290 instead of a geforce 780
don't need a soundcard, onboard is sufficient unless you're doing music stuff too
