Gaming upgrade advice

I'm considering getting back into PC gaming as I miss using mouse and keyboard after several years of lazing on the sofa with the PS4.

My PC is quite old now:

Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
Asus P6T x58
6GB of DDR3
Nvidia GTX 460 - 768MB

Haven't played games on it for maybe 6 or 7 years.

I don't have the cash at the minute to upgrade the whole PC. I'd be looking at say a max outlay of £250. If I spent £200-£250 on a new GFX card, would it run recent games (specifically the Division 2) at 1080p on say medium settings at a fair fps? Or would the rest of the system prove too much of a bottleneck to not really be worth bothering?

Cheers for any advice :)

yeah, just leave it tbh. with a system that old, better to upgrade the whole lot at the same time.

ALTERNATIVELY: if you want to soldier on with the x58 platform...
1) cheap used xeon 5650 and good cooler for OC (may need a bios update on your mobo first - check) (£50ish for the CPU, £?? depending on what cooler you already have)
2) another 3x2gb ram to make total of 12gb (£30)
3) a cheap used 1060 6gb or rx580 8gb (£120 - off the MM)

should see you for the next couple of years, and shouldn't cost more than £250 tops

1st gen intel got a massive jump in design with 2/3rd gen for IPC .
Currently , intel had the stronger IPC /performance from 2nd -9th gen if clocked at the same speed as Ryzen 1*** and 2**** ( same core count for core count ).
If you do the same for first Gen Intel and Ryzen, ryzen will come out on top.

Again was a good jump from 1st gen to 2nd, after 3rd gen it's been nothing, and currently now it's just extra cores .

DX 12 will be your best friend until you upgrade. Ran i7 860 ( 4ghz ) Vs i5 7600 (5.1ghz) using gtx 1070 at the time and DX12 did help massively . At the time DX12 was slated for 4th-6th gen Intel's but with really one cores.. it's a gem !
