Gaming Upgrade

So that would be my ideal spec then by the look of it, and the shipping for me would be free lol :D

Edit - non of the parts selected would have to be on offer I'm afraid, as I will be going down the finance route and therefore no products which are currently on offer are not accepted on finance orders as already stated. So it looks like the OEM CPU would have to do.

Thanks - Liam

Does anyone care that the OP is looking at the finance option?

Unless they have the cash now they can't buy anything on special offer.

Special offers can't be financed.

SSD?? and i would say 6950 i specced is better not sure tho plus it flashes to 6970

The XFX 6950 is unlikely to unlock.

Someone bought one and it was a different revision of the card which was not flashable. See here.

The only 6950 OcUK sell now which is advertised as flashable is this one:

Asus ATI Radeon HD 6950 OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Though why you would pay £260 for a flashable 6950 is beyond me when a proper 6970 can be had for the same money.

So by the looks of things, the ATI is the way forward for gaming at the moment?

Also - I'm finally glad that motherboard manufacturers combine both SLI & Crossfire compatiability at last as I remember years ago when it used to be Intel Nvidia & AMD ATI.

Thanks - Liam

Look at the spec I posted its not out of your range and if your dead set on a spec that only let's you spend £200 on the graphics card then get the 6950 its much better than the 560

Right, so here is the final basket complete with the 6950 card. I had to add the Gigabyte mobo as the ASRock board is still on a "This Week" offer. How does this look guys?

XFX ATI Radeon 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM
Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w Silent SLI Certified Modular Power Supply
Antec Kúhler H2O 620 CPU Watercooler (Socket Intel LGA 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / AMD AM2 / AM3 / AM2+ / AM3+)
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 32MB Cache - OEM (ST31000524AS)
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9)
OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Total: £819.90

Thanks all - Liam

Right just got 2 more extra things to point out before I make a final decision,

A couple of people are not keen on the Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P board that I have included in the basket, could anyone else suggest another board to use instead? Just to remind everyone as well, I cannot use the ASRock Z68 board as that is still on offer as speak (unless OcUK take off the deal offer from it anytime soon).

I'm still not 100% on this OCZ power supply as someone else had doubts on this one, could someone else suggest another one if it's for the best?

Lastly, a few of you have suggested using 8GB of RAM but someone else posted on here stating that I would only need 4GB if I was gaming only which is the main thing I would be doing. I would also be using Windows 7 X64 if I decide to go for this build. Here is the final basket at present;

XFX ATI Radeon 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM
Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - Alternative?
OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w Silent SLI Certified Modular Power Supply - Alternative? Also, I won't be going down the SLI/Crossfire route either, so maybe I could get one with lower watts?
Corsair Hydro H60 CPU Cooler with free Akasa Apache Fan (Socket LGA1366 / 1155 / 1156 / 775 / AM2 / AM3)
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 32MB Cache - OEM (ST31000524AS)
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9) - Stick to 8GB or lower to 4GB?
OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Thanks once again all - Liam

with not spending so much on the CPU cooler and limiting to 4GB (which is enough really), you can budget for a 570.

the obvious choices apart from the gigabyte are the Asus P8Z68-V, pro or non pro, and the Asrock Extreme4. You could even get a MSI p67-GD65 with Hyper 212+ cooler, and overclock to 4.2-4.4GHz. Saves on cooler, and you can get better gubbins.

Not too keen on the Antec 300 myself. In that price range, the Zalman Z9, or the CoolerMaster 690 II Lite (bit more expensive but very nice case).

Thanks,

Would the Cooler Master case really be ideal, or could I still stick to the Antec 300 without any problems?

Also, isn't the Z68 chipset supposed to be newer and slightly better than the P67's?

Edit - the MSI GTX 570 is out of stock :( Would I have to stick to the ATI 6950 or go for the OcUK GTX 570 instead?

Edit 2 - Here is the ammended basket, I had to change some of the parts as they were still on offer and therefore are not accepted on finance:

OcUK GeForce GTX 570 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM
MSI P67A-GD65 Intel P67 (socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION ** with FREE Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler
OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w Silent SLI Certified Modular Power Supply
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9)
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ)
LG GH22NS70 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM LG GH22NS70 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Total is £806.92

Thanks - Liam
