Looking to upgrade the the current range, so I can futureproof myself for another two or Three hears.

Currently have

I5 2500k
Z68ap-d3
Gigabyte 280x

Looking to mainly upgrade the board/CPU/Ram I think the card should still be good enough for most games, right!?

Budget I'd say £400/450 at the most?

A 2500k will still be good for gaming for a number of years especially if you overclock it, is yours overclocked ?

Are you strugling in gaming , what res you play at ?

You can check if the CPU is an issue by running Task Manager on a second monitor and looking at the CPU usage.

Which GPU do you have? You can perform similar tests on the GPU using GPU-Z.

Agree with Micky - GPU. Never played Tomb Raider but even 980Ti's struggle to hit 60 fps @ 1080p with absolutely everything maxed on GTA V. And my 970 uses over 3GB VRAM for it. Depending on your settings, you may be hitting the limit with the 3GB 280X.

And Quartz' suggestion is worth trying, to give you an idea of how well your CPU is coping.

With 8GB RAM, you'll likely also be hitting the memory limit on GTA V, if you have a browser or something else open at the same time. So you could check that too through Task Manager or something like HWiNFO64. Play for about an hour first.

So the question is, AMD or NVidia?

If its the 970, which manufacturer?
If its the 390, which manufacturer?

Always been a Gigabyte fan myself...

Its a coin flip, the 970 uses less power than the 390 as for which manafacturer then saphire nitros have great cooling, some of the 970,s ( i think msi ) have 0 fan speed when idle but you will have to look into that.

Zotac have 5 Year warranty.

Had the Sapphire Nitro in my basket last night at 269.99 and didnt bother, noticed this morning the price has dropped to £249.99

Updated the AMD Drivers this morning and tried Tomb Raider again, everything on full. was getting 16-21FPS on the 280x

I've ordered the Sapphire 390 from here!
