Hey, I've been looking around threads for ages looking at what is best for a gaming computer which will be used for video editing and rendering. The games that I will play will be WoW, Minecraft, Skyrim, Guild Wars 2 and SW:TOR. I would also like the computer to be upgradable at any point...

I currently have 2 things in mind:
Either buy this computer (but doesn't have all the things I want), I have added the 560TI to it.

Or I could go with this shopping list (this doesn't have Windows or a case atm, more on Windows below):

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £167.99
1 x Asus GeForce GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £161.99
1 x Corsair Force Series 3 120GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (CSSD-F120GB3-BK) £133.99
1 x Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £84.98
1 x OCZ ZS Series 550W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £54.98
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) £39.98
1 x TP-Link 300Mbps Wireless N PCI Adapter (TL-WN851ND) £19.99
1 x Pioneer 24x Internal DVR-S19LBK DVD Rewriter including Labelflash - Retail £18.98
Total : £695.50 (includes shipping : £10.50).

With this, I need a case. I was looking at this one, but not sure if it will fit, or if it can have Hard Drives added on later.

Anyway, about Windows. I wouldn't want to buy it if I didn't have too, but I don't know how to install Windows from a computer thats never had it on (I've reinstalled Windows on loads of computers thats had it on before -- I just don't know about BIOS stuff, is that already on the mother board or what?). If I could just put it in the CD, or memory stick and then install like normal (from boot) then that would be fine.

Anyway, as I said in the title, I don't want the price above £800. I have a monitor, keyboard, speakers and mouse. I just need the tower.

Thanks!

yes it'll all fit fine in the case, the bios is already on the motherboard(I'm guessin you don't know much about pcs ;) ).

from what you're saying about windows I'm guessing you have/have had pre-built pc/s or laptop/s that come with recovery partion or similar, if you don't have a win7 dvd(oem or retail) then you'll need to buy. if you're a student you maybe able to get it free(legally) or for £45 otherwise its £80

for video editing/rendering you'll be wanting a i2600k/i2700k if possible, but not looking likely unless you make compramises elsewhere such as the graphics card.

you'll want to add a cpu cooler if you want to overclock, the stockcooler does allow a bit overclocking(4ghz) but the temps/noise are high), gelid tranquilo is a favorite cheap(£26) one,

You have only specced yourself a SSD in that build, is 120GB enough for all your files? I'm guessing WoW and SW:TOR alone with the OS will fill a lot of that up. Do you have a SATA HDD you can pull from a old PC to use?

I have a 1TB in this computer that I can move over while I wait for the HDD prices to come down due to the price hike. Inwhich I would like to upgrade to a 2TB and maybe a new SSD when I can afford it.

I do know stuff about PC's, I've just never ever looked into BIOS or how it works or anything, I probably should have, but oh well D: Glad to know I could just install it like normal.

I have a disc at home that isn't being used, so thats fine.

I am currently using a Intel Q6600 atm, and editing/rendering is okay on here (I don't use a massive program to edit, its Corel VideoStudio Pro X4), so an i5 should be much better then the one I'm using atm :P

I probably wouldn't overclock, unless it will give me much better performance.

Thanks for your help so far!

buying a i2500k and not overclocking? blesphamy(sp?), don't let the door hit you on the way out ;)

the bios has NOTHING to do with windows, we have people on here spouting rubbish about oem version being tied to the bios and what not which confues pc 'noobs' etc.

is it windows 7 home premium? is it oem(64bit or 32bit) or retail? if its vita/xp time to get with the times :)

if you don't need os then I would suggest you add a cooler now, it'll give you overclocking in the future and better temps/noise now(vs the stock cooler)

case http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-220-CM&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=

cooler http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-001-GD&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=

total £785 + delivery.

check if your programs support cuda, if so nvidia is the way to go.

If I don't overclock (as I don't know how too, or if it will have a boost on my machine) then should I go for the i2500?

Ahh okay, then I understand, thats all sorted.

I will add a cooler, I understand that the graphics card can get... hot, so I will need one :P And Its Professional 64bit, I want to take advantage of all the 8gb of memory, so I need 64bit, and I got it via being a student :)

And what is Cuda? I will research it :)

Okay, edited it:

Will the PSU be okay?

Looking at this list cuda seems useless :S

No support for 3Ds max, photoshop or gaming, so I reckon the HIS 6950 might be better overall...

but itll put him over £800 :)

if any thing you might want to consider http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-267-AS 2 free games + higher factory oc on it, sell the game codes if they're not your cup of tea(~£50).

or stick with the one without the games and up the psu to http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-117-AN&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat= modular so better for cable management + 100W extra so more 'headroom' for future upgrades overclocking etc.

It's for me :D but the OP did ask if the HIS 6950 was worth the £40 more. Seriously though looking around £199.99 is probably the best offer out there for it.

oh, I'm sure someone mentioned cuda is supported in photoshop etc. might want to wait for an expert.

oh and dalez another option to use all your £800 budget (other than the the gpu/psu change) is http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-112-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517 will put you a few quid over tho, maybe overkill for gaming but will be useful in editing/rendering.
or you could go back to your original case of choice, the choices are 'endless' :)

I agree, thats the ram I got in my basket a nice saver bundle, not sure about video editting but I know photoshop and 3ds max drag out on my 4gb just make sure you use 64bit windows.

As far as Cuda goes I don't think photoshop supports it, can't find anything concrete in google searchs.

Here is a old topic about in the OC forums:

I think im going with the 6950 just for the 2gb GPU bragging :D 1gb is so last year! j/k
