Garden fence

you've got to be a bad neighbour to be upset about that!

you were very gracious to accept the uglier side of the fence provided she paid for it tho. Did you offer to go halves?

Personally it would not bother me in the slightly, it doesn't affect you or your life in any impactful way.

I know that starting here, could lead to other bigger things, but wait and if it does then deal with them, but for this I wouldn't waste any time dwelling on it.

If it annoyed him then it has affected him. If anything, it just shows a complete lack of manners from his neighbours. If they had asked, he may have been amicable to it. I'm quite surprised that basic manners or common courtesy seem to be lost on people in here, actually no I'm not :)
Granted this could be solved really easily by a very quick chat. For all OP knows they didn't even understand it wasn't theirs.

OP just ask them politely, it probably could have been resolved in less time than it took you to post that.

Don't embarrass yourself by going and talking to your neighbours about tying a washing line to a fence that they paid for, even if the bit they've tied to shows on your side of the fence, you'll come across a right Victor Meldrew type

For all we know, the posts might not actually be on Clearcut's property, he might have actually been benefitting from 2 inches of extra garden for the last 10 years because of the way they erected the fence.

One last point, did you photoshop the tiny red arrow onto the pic, or have your heinous neighbours spray painted it onto their patio to draw your eye to their criminal behaviour?
It seems they’re trolling you.

Assuming it's her fence on her property then she can do with it as she pleases. It is normally polite to give your neighbour (you) the nicer side of the fence though.

I can't really see a problem here. By all means have a polite chat to her if it bothers you. Maybe you could offer to put a hook on the other side for her to attach the line to. But there really isn't anything to get worked up about here.

In our street the general rule of thumb is we maintain the left side fence in our garden, and have the nice side. On the right we have the ugly side as our neighbour paid for it, not sure why someone would expect the nice side of the fence if they didn’t pay for it.

Though saying that if I paid for the right side I would still have the ugly side showing just to be polite.

I've always thought it's more about the 'ugly' side of the fence being the one that you want to ensure is maintained so that the fence lasts longer, which is in your interest if it's your fence. Otherwise the neighbour with the ugly side might just neglect things like arris rails, let them rot etc. and you end up having to spend money to repair it or replace it sooner.

Good point, luckily we get on with our neighbours so taking them out when need be isn’t a problem to fix them up.
