Garlic press

Get two large bowls and shake!

I'll see if I can find a video.

[edit]

Very clever but i have don't have 2 bowls anywhere NEAR the size of that, the closest thing is a saucepan with a lid! Which is heavier than the 2 light weight metal bowls he seem to be tossing.

Easier with a garlic press and smaller to store.

the cloves at the bottom are the from supermarket garlic.

Here's a little tip I just remembered for getting the smell off your hands....

Wipe your hands on some stainless steel, such as your sink. Smell comes right off

It works with fish too, to a degree.

I've never had a clove that looks like that from the supermarket I shop at and I buy at least 1 a week.

Never fount a garlic press that works, and I've had a few (at least one a year) and they are all rubbish, either breaking or ending up in the bin

the shaking video............ no way!......

I hate smelling garlic on my fingers the following day after cooking... thats great advice.

Sainsburys ones always look like that :(

Those one at the bottom are from a Tesco specimen, the big ones are from a proper greengrocer, you should have seen the size of the beast, I didn't know whether to cook with it or kick a field goal with it.

watched jamie oliver the other day on telly and was amazed by the garlic bulb he threw in his rabbit Bolognese, was the size of an apple!

We've got a le Creuset Garlic Press. Works well imo. It has 3 hinged parts: The two handles and the sieve bit which operates separately making it easy to scrape clean each side of it.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be widely available.

Just in case anyone has been suffering from sleepless nights, I eventually went with the Kuhn Rikon model and it's pretty damn fantastic.

As with all the KR stuff I've got, it's very well designed, has excellent ergonomics, is easy to clean and just gets on with the job without fuss. And like a lot of the KR products on Amazon, the price dropped from its current level for a short while and I snapped one up.

All-in-all a fine replacement for my now, sadly departed, press.

Oxo Good Grips. Solidly built, no nooks & crannies for bits to get stuck in, nice large bowl and a pokey bit to clean the sieve out afterwards. The press part is a good fit too so none of it squidges out of the sides. Stupidly easy to clean with a rinse under the tap then bung it in the dishwasher.

I bought one the other week after I snapped the old one and I couldn't be happier with it.

I tend to use the side of a knife these days, just as quick (I don't have to go and fish the press out of the drawer) and less wastage.
