Garry's mod to go retail

I don't see what the problem with it is, personally. Gary wasn't going to continue, and if I was offered such a deal I wouldn't turn it down nor care what the community thought.

I'd say they take more than just a little

You'd get much more money though with the exposure through steam instead of the personal website or something, even with the 50/50

Bloody hell I remember being in the same forum as this Gary when he first released his mod...it's gone far. I played the first version and thought it was pretty lame tbh.

Valve are the new EA.

Gabe has to fund that pie habit somehow......

Well wouldn't go as far as saying that they are a new EA but they do have to get their money somehow, market is hardly lucrative lately. As for 50/50 deal it's more than fair if you ask me, considering that the mod is using the source engine and engines like source don't come cheap.

My god, some peoples attitudes on here are shocking. Valve get succesfull (and rightly so in my opinion) and I know, we'll ignore the fact that they FUND THE DEVELOPER but we'll call them money grabbing SOBs.

Valve are the new EA? Really? Name one game that Valve are selling through Steam that has a running series ending in 03/04/05/06/07?

Have a few    's.

Oh and to Cooper - DUDE! YOU BOUGHT A DELL!!

Another stab at the EA comment, since when have valve been known for releasing an endless torrent of generic and awfully horrible games with no after sale support?

Its always good to see that a developer actually has active interest in the community like valve does.
