Garry's mod to go retail

Gabe has to fund that pie habit somehow......

lol

no they're not

if valve was the new EA. Lost cost wouldnt have been a free download, it would have been "an expansion pack"

and CS:Source wouldnt have come bundled with HL, it would have been a separate game bought through steam

oh and all the content that has been added to CS:source recently, HDR lighting on dust, new skins maps etc.. would have come in "booster packs" that have to be paid for again separately

Valve is nowhere near EA. oh and theres the small matter of valve not rushing out unfinished games either. how long were we kept waiting for HL2 ? ea would never have waited, and forced them to publish unfinished and patch later on.

while i agree with the people that Valve are not anything like EA i have to say that 50/50 is a very good deal for Valve... it may use the source engine but it is not being released as a stand-alone game and will require HL2 or similar to be installed already so source licensing doesn't really come in to it.
On the other hand i don't think Valve charge very much for 3rd party developers to release over steam and they certainly don't seem at all greedy. They have been very generous to the community imo but then they get their own rewards for that too.

Not played Garry's Mod though!

I don't see what people have got against Valve/Steam, I think it's great. It's nice to see more and more games being released on Steam, even the ones that are made using different engines.
