To keep it short and simple:
Today my father bought a new gas BBQ. It runs using propane gas only. The propane gas regulator that came with the BBQ does not fit propane gas cylinders (propane cylinder valves have female connections. The regulator we got with the BBQ had a female connection too). We had to buy a separate regulator that has a male connection.
The person at the store where we got a full gas cylinder from told us that the manufacturers of the regulators purposefully issued these female propane regulators to the BBQ manufacturers so that when people buy a new BBQ they also have to spend more money on getting a male propane regulator.
Is this a scam of some sorts? The manufacturer is clearly selling a product that is not compatible with any gas cylinders available.
