Been sent a gas bill for 220 pounds for October till 1st December

Surely this cannot be right. There are 4 of us in the house and we only have the heating on for 4 hours a day and the shower is an electric one.

We have called N power and they maintain that the bill is right but 220 pounds for 2 months? no way can that be right.

Any ideas how we can sort this out ?

woah thats definatly not right for what you have said. Did you own a previous house before, what were the bills from there like?

Exactly the same for me although ours was a little less, £145 for the same period you mentioned and yes its Npower, have not done a reading and called them up yet but I'm thinking the same... surely this cannot be right, we both work and therefore the house is empty for 9hrs a day with the heating switched off.

Madness....... funny though that this is my closing bill as I've changed suppliers...... www.ebico.co.uk are the cheapest to be had (Southern Electric actually supply you but at the rates EbiCo say... apparantly they dont make money at these rates) and was told about them by a mate of mine who works for Powergen, he also says U Switch is a pile of poo and funnily enough is 'sponsered' by half of the companies it recommends!!!

At a guess, either the previous tenants used a lot more gas than you, they were behind on their bills (possibly) or it'll be an estimate and you'll claim it back later when you have the meter read again.

Did you take a reading when you moved in?

Just had a gas bill from npower for £50 just for December (we were away for a week in dec as well)), thats for a 1bed flat. it was £300 for the whole of last year
Its hardly uncommon for Npower to mess up

Just wondering if you gave them the correct meter reading when you set up your acc?

Do you have an old boiler, modern ones use half as much gas as older varieties, if its rented then the owner might not have changed boiler in ten years.

You need to check the reading and hopefully you took a reading when you first moved in so you know exactly what you have used. Powergen charged our student house over £400 for 3 months gas which was obviously wrong, I took a reading of the meter and phoned them up and they sorted it straight away. Just ring them and explain the problem.

We're paying £50 a month but we owe powergen £150 now so we're going to have to up our payments.

Don't really think we have the gas on much maybe this time of year 4 hours a day max?

I'm with powergen and to be honest we've had enough of them. As they didn't take our first 3 payments out last year when we moved to this house.

Thinking of going elsewhere we're on duel fuel but we may split them up to try and save some money.
