Anyone else dreading theirs?!!!

Heating has been on constantly since early December...16c at night, 15 when at work and 22 in the evenings - am I the only cold one?! :D

have managed to get a bit in credit with the direct debits over the summer so should be ok

Spoke to my parents about this earlier and the reply was "other than you lot being home during the day not much difference". Having said that we are a family that like cool conditions and it's easy enough to stick a fleece/jumper on over your T-shirt, saves time when you need to go out too. :p

Why have it on when you're not in the house? It's only been below freezing for about the past 2 days so it's not like pipes are going to freeze?

Dont care about pipes but if I turn it off at 7:30am when I leave it can drop rapidly to about 10 and then takes an age to warm up in the evening :(

Need to sort out the insulation on the sash windows methinks :(

True Story

sat on holiday once in 30C heat, Sky News was on in a bar and they were reporting on how cold it had dropped back home

My missus gets her mobile out , rings the neighbours and asks them to nip round and turn the heating up

BECAUSE THE CAT MIGHT BE COLD :D

How long is an age? Set it to come on an hour before you get home. Jobs a good 'un.

I used to live above a tesco express - in the two years I was there we never had to put the heating on as so much escaped from the shop.

To go from 15 to 22 takes 3 hours ish - I might experiment with the timer if I get round to it - am I the only lazy one who leaves it on?!!

My gas bill will almost certainly be in credit because they started charging us £50/month since a couple of months back, their predicted usage over the winter months is way off the mark in my opinion.

Due to change provider over the next month so hopefully something slightly less exorbitant over the coming year.

Because it's been below zero for the last 3 weeks?

Pipes can burst in freezing conditions. It's common sense to leave heating on to prevent this.

damn you guys which can use a timer.

How easy are the thermostat to replace, with something a bit more programmable. Basically save a few different profiles and select a different one each day, darn shift work.

I'm overpaying so hopefully that will cover the increase. I would rather be comfortable and pay. Unless you are stupidly tight for money I don't get the lets feel cold for the sake of £10 a month.

I'd say you'd have pretty shoddy insulation if your house or flat dropped to below freezing while you were out at work if the outside temp has only been just below freezing, and we've only really been below zero in London this week:

Don't most boilers have an anti freeze setting? Where water is pumped around the house but at a low temperature to stop pipes freezing? Ours does at least.

Am not looking forward to my gas bill in the slightest, we live in the coldest most thermally inefficient house in the world. Four floors, open plan so hardly any doors, and only a scattering of radiators. Heating needs to be on full blast for 4-5 hours to bring the temperature up to 20 degrees, and it doesn't get above 15 in the kitchen regardless. We can't move soon enough.

I'm remembering from childhood growing up in an 1800's house. We had to be very careful with the heating if we went away on holiday in winter. My Gran always used to worry about it any time she left the house for more than a day. It's less of an issue nowadays and yes there is the anti-frost setting on modern well maintained systems. But...how many people just switch there heating off altogether when they are away from home?
