Yeah I know its probably been posted 1359103489130973 times but I just bought an NVIDIA OEM 9800GT from a mate for £15 as he'd upgraded due to it not working and after a quick blast in the oven for 8mins, it's sweet as a nut now!

Only problem is that then fan is constantly 100%, not sure whether it is the card or if 9800GTs did it?

Either way it's running fine. Lovely to have an extra 640MB graphics memory coming from an 8800GS especially as I'm driving a 1920x1080 monitor. I'd like to get a new card somewhen but I haven't really had the urge to do so yet.

44c idle and had a quick play of GTA IV and it reached 55c. Just about to update the drivers now. Windows Update did start downloading them but I was impatient :p

EDIT: Drivers haven't affected the fan speed. I can live with it but it is a bit annoying.

Very true. If it does become unbearable I have an Akasa Vortexx Neo cooler which I can put on it anyway :)

Not sure if it's worth the hassle really unless the older drivers have increased performance over the newer ones as well.

is it at 100% all the time ?
i.e. spins up to 100% on first power on, then stays at that speed ?

Exactly that. I was wondering if I plugged the fan in the right way as I plugged it in and removed it somehow with the plastic the connector sits in. I've plugged it back in with the tab facing downwards on the card which is the way it was I'm sure.

Currently says its at 8717 RPM at 30%

I can adjust it with RivaTuner but it doesn't do anything.

Well after checking the connector again it seems that I ripped the blue PWM speed controller cable from the crimp.

Managed to find another crimp and solder the wire to it so the fan is now idling at a much more reasonable 2900 RPM

The first reply mentioned updating your drivers, you then said this had been done through Windows Update. I would try going to NVidia's site directly and downloading the latest drivers from there as I don't think Windows Updates provides full, up to date drivers, I think they just provide generic, will-give-you-a-display-but-nowt-else drivers.
