Gates at big airports like Heathrow....

I don't like Heathrow, I've only been there once, and the terminal I went to (dunno which) had nothing in the way of fast food. They had plenty of designer shops and Whisky shops with Humidors, also some sit-down restaurants, but you daren't ask for a Big Mac, ohhh no.

I found Heathrow to be great. No queues coming back into the country.

I came back into stansted and had to queue for 30 minutes just to get my passport seen to. That was after waiting 10 minutes to get onto their automatic train.

This was at 11.30pm as well....

In my experience most of the problems and delays I've encountered have been on the British end of things. I've never had any delays at JFK, LAX or Schipol, but not so for Heathrow, Gatwick and Birmingham! :o

Oh yeah, Madrid is a hell hole as well, 2 international flights through one security scanner for connecting flights  .

Don't even get me started on the new Madrid Terminal 4 and 4S. Only the Spanish could create a brand new terminal where it takes you 30 minutes to physically get from the check-in desks to the gates (courtesy of a ridiculous set of escalators/lifts and an underground train system). Plus, it now takes around 1 hour for your luggage to appear on arrival in Madrid....

I had the misfortune to arrive in Madrid 4S on its second day of operation. The new 'fully automated' baggage handling system was taking anywhere between 3 and 5 hours to actually get bags to the carousels

Give me Heathrow any day (well... maybe not Terminal 2...)

My luggage went missing both ways going through there. My memories of Madrid was that it had a distinct third world kind of feeling about it. Absolutely shambolic.

I could say the same apart from one incident going to Vegas Airport in January. Queued up for an hour and a half to get processed.

Utterly awful.

I went through Madrid on the way back from Portugal for some reason.. It is very bad, the spanish smoke a lot and everywhere is smoking, there was no good food and the cash machine was broken. the crap overly priced "Duty Free" shops were also poor. You also have to walk miles and it isn't obvious where to go.

Manchester is much better and that is nothing special really. I hear American airports are generally better, Probably Japanese too.

If people think Heathrow's organisation is bad, try Caracas or Las Vegas  People people people people and nobody knows where they're going or how to get there :D

Going to Calgary in a couple of days so I hope that's not too bad :p

you know you've used computers too much when you see the word "Gates" and assume it's a thread about Bill :(

Anyone been to Frankfurt? Better get your walking shoes on, its just a long long corridor :D
