My car seems to set off Gatso cameras!!

I am not speeding in fact I am heading towards them when they go off. At first I thought it was a coincidence then I realised it was virtually every camera I pass. How can this be?

I am sure the car isn’t fitted with any jamming or scrambling equipment. The previous owner was an old man and he had it from new. I am getting paranoid now and more so blinded at night.

You can still set them off by going past them quickly in the wrong direction, are you positive you are doing dead on the limit when you go past?

If you have any doubt to whether or not your setting them off.. your not. The flashes are so bright they wake the dead and blind old men.

Another possibility is that you are setting them off because your speedo is absolutely miles out.. but this is very unlikely, unless your adamant you keep setting them off.

If you're going towards the Gatso (ie you can see the lens/flash when driving towards it) then it can't procecute you.

Whilst on the topic of speed cameras, I have a question to ask.

Today I was driving along the A30 just off the M25 towards Ashford/London, and there was this single blue camera located to the left of the road along the pavement. I think the limit was a 30, but as it was dark, I couldnt see the camera until late, and I ended up going past it at just under 40. Now, the question I want to ask is, was that a speed camera?

I think it was a spec, however it wasn't located between the central reservation, it was on the top of a pole which was mounted on the side of the road. Anyone know what I'm on about?

If it was a single camera (i.e. no others further down the road) then chances are that is was as traffic camera, nothing more.

To the OP, if the traffic cams ARE flashing bright enough to 'blind' you, you need to complain to the council. What would happen if the moment an on-coming car was travelling too fast just as a little child stepped out into the road in front of you? You'd never see them in time!

Anyway, I thought Gatso's didn't have flashes and replied on IR or other such things? (Exactly for the reasons mentioned above, a flash directly into an on-coming driver = bad)

Gatso's flash like normal cameras.
Truvelo's use IR,

different cameras entirely mate.

Aren't SPECs usually yellow though?

You sure it wasn't a trafficmaster camera?

Just done a google search for a 'trafficmaster camera', and yes that is it, thanks very much. ;)

I always get my namings wrong unfortunately :o :( The big-ole yellow boxes that sit at the side of two-way traffic roads, are they gatso's or truvelos. Likewise, what are the over-head cameras called on Motorway bridges because they DO flash... I have never seen a road-side cam flash.

Gatsos are the rear facing (catch you driving away from them) yellow cameras on the side of the road. (or sometimes in the middle if its on a island) They will flash twice and have the white markings on the floor (which is how they work out your speed).

I am making a complaint as it did it again tonight on my way home. Again I was driving with it facing me and it flashed twice in my face. It is a Gatso not a Truvelo.
