Gatwick South Terminal evacuated

Ahhh Putin's hybrid warfare in action.

Doesn't even need to contain explosives. A box with some wires and a timer or a phone attached to it and it causes chaos and panic.

Which is exactly what they would want to achieve. You can't start a war over it, but it's bloody annoying and over time erodes people's feeling of safety.

I fear this won't be the last of these type stories.

Seems to have been "resolved" - going to be a mess over the weekend with flights, etc catching up though

We've just got a new update from Gatwick Airport announcing that the security incident "has been resolved and cleared by police".

The South Terminal has begun reopening to staff and will be open to passengers shortly, it said.

Trains will begin calling at the airport again once the terminal has fully reopened.

"We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while this situation was resolved. Safety and security is always our top priority," the airport said.

"There are some delays and cancellations. Passengers should contact their airline for any updates on flights."

a related note, did anyone see this article earlier in the year? Reassuring to know how ‘on it’ they are. I feel sorry for the guy though.

He learnt the first rule.. security forces don't have a sense of humour.. well not externally anyway..

I wonder if we'll get told soon that these were all "mental health related" or "Welsh teenager"

Hopefully everyone is safe.

Given that it was in a private chat group, just how did the authorities find out about it so quickly, especially as it's meant to be end-to-end encrypted?
