Its on again folks:

To celebrate 10 years of Seti@Netherlands they have arranged another Kings Gauntlett.

What does a Gauntlet mean?
A Gauntlet is a temporary subteam competition. The origins of those Gauntlets lies with the Ars Technica Lambchop team, but they've been held international a few times already.
It works like this: Subteams are made of about 20 crunchers. From the start of the Gauntlet there is a daily update of the statistics of these subteams. The team that has the best production after a certain period of time, wins the Gauntlet.

When does this take place?
This new Gauntlet will start at Friday the 25th of September 2009 at 00:00 hrs GMT+1 and will run for three weeks and end at Friday the 16th of October 2009 at 00:00 hr GMT+1.
To be exact, the running time will be from the first Berkeley stats export after Thursday September 24 th 20:00(GMT+1) till the first stats export after Thursday October 15th 20:00(GMT+1).

You need to put your name and Seti ID # in this thread indicating you want to participate.

I'm sure we can do better than last time :) And its a good chance for the foldy types to join in for a week or two and have some good old stompy/spanky/feek/bananas/dumping fun.

Statistics
While the Gauntlet is running, there will be a daily update of all stats. The update time is depending on when Berkeley posts a new statistics download. Usually this is around midnight (GMT+1).

Yeah been doing this far too long S@H archive :o

Its only for a week before and during (3weeks) so a month total.

Don't worry about the output Grim, We will have to create extra teams if we get too high an avg anyway. :)

But 16CPU cores and a 260 should do the trick!

I think I'm going to do this gauntlett, throw everything I have at Seti for a month and then switch over to F@H for a while.

On some machines I do Seti on cpu and folding on GPU, but on a couple I do Seti on the GPU and Folding on the CPU.

If you run the optimised setup from lunatics it lets you choose to just run Seti on the CPU or the GPU, then you either run the GPU or the CPU FAH client

I think its 20 people per team.
Wondering why we are the [Spankers] :p

Coz we iz gonna spank dere butz :D

Seriously its a historical term, Spanky was a threat/promise to slackers.

I have must have borked mine, because it's been running all day and still not found any work :(

Nope its still fubar, but it is the weekend.

Once you get going you can up your cache and keep 4 or 5 days worth to keep you busy during the dry periods :)

If we shout Feek loud enough think he will join in? :D

I thought I saw him back the other day... anyway..

FEEK COME GET YOUR BANANAS!

Outside of lots of little network/system hiccups which have been addressed in our usual whac-a-mole manner, there has been continuing data pipeline issues. The data recorder at Arecibo has been crashing, seemingly randomly. This wouldn't be a big deal but it requires human intervention to reboot, so when it locks up at night, we can miss hours of data. Meanwhile, our reserves are pretty much running dry. We do expect a shipment of at least 4 full data drives by early next week. We may run out of data of the weekend, but that's okay. And yes we are aware of splitters stuck on certain files.

Also from: http://seti.berkeley.edu/?q=node/20
We’re out of Multibeam (SETI@Home) data right now, so only people who are running Astropulse are getting work. But we’re going to be getting a box of data tomorrow or the next day, so we’re fine on that front. Saved by the Box, again.

By default it would seem it will only do GPU processing after the computer has been inactive for 3 minutes.

Boinc > Advanced > Preferences >
Use GPU Whilst Computer is in use

There does not appear to be a way to set this in the overall preferences on the website you can only lower the idle time to 1 minute minimum.

Nah if you have that ticked it disables the "only after computer has been idle for .."

For my machines it kicks of the GPU and CPU tasks immediately with the "While computer is in use" and "Use GPU while computer is in use"
