Well i was all set to buy a full conroe system, got the cash cleared and reasoned why to "her indoors" that i needed it then reality hit.

After reading a few reviews i concluded at the Res i play games 1280x1024 i would see little improvement over my Opty @ 2.8ghz.

Ok so ive decided to Upgrade in the graphics dept instead.Currently run a vf700 cooled 7800GT  this handles most things i throw at it although not at the detail level i would like.

What would you go for?Cheap option would be a 2nd 7800GT and run in SLi,Could go for a pair of 7900GTs or a single card like the x1900xt.What in your opinion would be the best path to take?

Cheers

Personally id try and get a 2nd 7800GT and SLI them as i think they would be quicker than a single x1900xt. On the other hand, the 7800s only have 256Mb RAM, if you want 512Mb, then the X1900XT is what you want.

Nah it wouldnt mate, single x1900xt would be faster by a long way

Torn between the x1900xt and a pair of 7900GTs.Looked at the 7950GX2 as well,my mate has a pair of those and played "Prey" demo on his system yesterday and it looked amazing.

6 grand omg with 6 large i`d go x1900xt crossfire to use on a conroe based board when it comes out, large lcd or even 2.
Quality Projector combined with amp and surround sound system. You could watch films and even games on 6x8 .
Could you buy your missus a diamond to help persuade her you need it :D

with my new x1900xt I am playing Prey and Fear @ 1600x1200 with all options maxed and it runs beautifully. I still prefer single card solutions as it seems a lot less hassle, not that I have experiance with SLI/XFire but thats my 2p worth. For £230 (HIS) I think its one of the best decisions I have made.

or wait a bit and get the X1950XTX?

Not really worth it IMHO, it can't use all the bandwidth with the ram running at that speed. The only improvement you get is from the clockspeed increase.

7900GTx2 or a single 7950GX2 would perform allot better then a X1900XT but it depends on your budget...

Nvidia cards actually overclock well too so theres potential for a nice overclock which will push performance far behond anything a X1900XT can do. ;)

Not at 1280x1074 it wouldn't according to the reviews ive read so far.

I'm guessing you mean 1280*1024, in that case you could try a single 7900GT and overclock it... and maybe later if you need the extra performance get another one and SLI it.... The 7900GT's overclock like crazy and allot surpass 7900GTX speeds with ease especially with 3rd party cooling...

But that would depend on how lucky you feel getting a good overclocker... :p

Just an alternative, as its gives u more options in the future..
