gB2488HSU-B2 - 24" iiyama Red Eagle

There is now one customer review for this screen at the rainforest place, they have written "This monitor has about 25ms of input lag because they removed Direct Drive in the B2 model. Steer clear if you play FPS games". Is this true?

I got the GB2488HSU-B2 screen yesterday, but the image quality was just plain bad (colors were washed out and sometimes just wrong and a lot of grain).

I also had a lot of backlight bleeding in the bottom, so I returned it to get a replacement.

Just wondering, did you change a lot of settings to have a satisfactory result, for example in crimson or was my unit completely faulty?

Default setting shows signs of grain on the default Windows 10 wallpaper, I only changed the Color setting from User to Normal and it is perfectly acceptable for me. And I'm saying that while having owned several good IPS displays in the past. Hardware.Info also tested the display and came to the conclusion the colors are excellent, for a 144 Hz TN panel. I completely agree with that statement.

I don't notice input lag, it's as responsive as it can be. Maybe I'm not sensitive to it, I've played CS a long time on a slow Dell 2001FP monitor from 2006 so... Will test tonight if there are signs of input lag.

Also, Dutch tech enthousiast website Tweakers.net has three user reviews (not by me) and no one complains about slow response times or input lag. I can't take that Amazon review too serious I think.

There are some Overdrive settings I have not played with yet (disabled by default), so I'll have to play a bit more inside the OSD.

Thanks, yeah I don't put massive stock in a single Amazon review, just seem a bit worrying.

Also tbh I'm pretty knowledge less on monitors so wasn't sure what it means or which technology I need for good response times, I found a review for the B1 model where they said "Direct Drive mode can only be used with Overdrive off", wasn't sure whether this model was the same, or really what it meant.

I can't really test it scientifically, but what I can see and feel does not indicate much input lag, if any at all. I do know that Hardware.Info mentioned their input lag testing device had strange results and they asked iiyama for an explanation, but nonetheless it still received an excellent award (without input lag results that is, I think that says something).

IF there is 25ms input lag, I can't notice it at all.

Also, the fact that Direct Drive Mode is not present on this model does not automatically mean the B2 has input lag issues. It might use better internals or a better panel which made Direct Drive Mode redundant. I think the reviewer thinks that because DDM is removed, the monitor has input lag issues like the B1 would have without DDM. I'm pretty sure this monitor differs quite a bit internally from the B1 (the HWI review confirms it judging by the vastly different results from B1 and B2), so I'm pretty sure it's just not needed anymore.

I made one mistake earlier by the way. The default Overdrive setting is 0, it ranges from -2 to +2 and with an off setting. So it's not off by default.

Just ordered this monitor, anyone have any further observations on theirs? Recommended settings? It was between this monitor and the AOC G2460PF but the AOC is universally criticised for its colours, brightness and the fact that the Freesync range is not what is advertised so that pretty much counted it out. I also didn't like the red accents on the bezel.

Monitor arrived today and is now in situ. First impressions are mixed unfortunately. I had a 22" 1680x1050 monitor before this one and the step up to 24" 1920x1080 is not making an impact on me, i have mixed feelings about the touch sensitive controls, the speakers are poor and the range of adjustments for the picture quality is limited. Out of the box the brightness is set at 80 so i adjusted that down to 36 and the washed out colours started to come back to life, i still need to spend some more time adjusting the picture quality. I have found in icc profile for the older GB2488HSU-B1 which i might try and see if it makes a difference.

I am a lot happier with this monitor now that i found an issue with the Nvidia GPU settings. At present the monitor is on my desktop PC and not the one in my signature and i discovered that the Nvidia control panel and selected limited RGB rather than full RGB. Full RGB has made a noticable difference to the quality of the image.
