Should you "bed in" your graphics card before overclocking? (if that even exists!) If so how many hours worth of general use should you do first?

Just got a new card and dont want to clock it immediately if it would cause problems/damage down the line etc.

The reason I ask is that with cars it recommended to do 10k miles + before tuning so wondering if there is a similar principle here.

I've never heard of people "bedding in" their graphics cards, nor any claims of performance gains/damage reduction from it.

However, I have heard of a few dedicated individuals on these boards who have been in bed with their 5970's. Not sure if that helps you or not. :p

Cars are different as the piston rings need to seat properly and such.....with GFX cards one could argue that the thermal paste needs a few heat cycles to cure properly but that doesn't prevent you from overclocking at all....and the temp difference will most likely not be more than a degree or 2

so get to it

Funny you shoud say that my top card 5870 maxed out at 85c on the 1st day of gaming use, playing the same games now 75-80c max so maybe the paste needs a day at least :D
