Just upgraded to a OnePlus 6T and have recently discovered this mod over at XDA developers called GCAM.

It appears to be a port from the Google Pixel devices, it also gets updated regularly if not daily and the results look night and day from the photo's I've taken with it below.

Stock Camera with HDR

GCAM Mod with HDR+ Enhanced

Highly recommended if you have a OnePlus and want an alternative camera app to the stock app.

Also noticed this mod will work on other devices like Xiaomi Poco F1 to Sony Xperia XZ1, and etc. No rooting required, just a simple download of the APK file to the device and install away... Here's the Link!

I hate to be that guy but this is old news. The mod has been available since the 6T was released. Having said that the early versions did have bugs.
I tried it for a while but I just find the stock camera app works better (speed/features etc). For sure the gcam mod is better when you're pixel peeping but for all I need from a phone camera I'm happy with stock.

Stock looks better to me! Though admittedly this is just looking at low res on my phone... Maybe there's more detail in the gcam version

Yeah well there's always that one guy? :p

I never knew it existed and since it hasn't been discussed here I thought I'd share my experience, perhaps spread the word to others that might not of been aware of this sort of app.

GCAM is more accurate to the environment I took the shot, very gloomy day here. Although I suppose it's down to personal taste and both apps do an outstanding job.

It's not surprising you prefer the stock shot, there is a video on YouTube comparing the Mate 20 Pro and Poco F1 cameras in a blind comparison and most preferred the Poco for the brighter snaps when pitted against the more natural ones.

Here's the video: Link!

Quite right it is down to preferences. I find if you disable the HDR and other automatic post processing jiggery pokery the 6T camera actually does alright - the 'auto fixing' software is far too aggressive.
If I was using my phone as my main camera (which I don't) I would probably have the Gcam mod installed. But as mentioned above, the stock app just seems to assimilate better (although you'd expect it to, it is the stock app after all!). The power button double press shortcut and the quick gesture on the ambient display both load the stock app much faster than the Gcam.
I find I only ever use my phone camera when I need to take a quick snap - i.e. guy asleep in the pub etc is always a good one :p

I tried it on my OP6 around Christmas and it kept crashing, not saving photos etc. Bit frustrating really because it looked like the potential was there.
