Hey guys

I am looking for a new corner desk. Can GD help me!

The below pic is my requirements, the max size I can fit is 105 x 147cm (I think the hard thing to fine is 105cm side)

I'm not a fan of pre-built desks. It's easy to just pop into Wickes/B&Q/Any DIY shop and build and customise your own.

I helped my brother design and build his. I don't have any pictures, but it was cheaper than normal desks of that quality, and it was customised around his needs. It about half an afternoon once you have an idea of layout/design.

Ace, Have you considered getting a carpenter in?

I had a corner exactly the same and couldn't find anything to fit. I got this chap round who made an exact fit by fitting together two MDF boards, so it was nice and thick, then cut to size into the recess. He also fitted a cross support so no legs where required. Cost me then (about 8 years ago) about £250 including materials.

I sprayed the desk with silver paint then used a lacquer to seal. Top job is was.. Sturdy as a rock and no wasted space for not much more than a flat pack.

Unfortunately, I had to remove it as we had an unexpected arrival.. Took me a whole morning to get the thing off!

I need a desk that will support 35kg worth of synthesizer probably ... any suggestions... would a cross support be possible in that situation? rather than a silly leg in the middle?

A Galant from ikea could hold that, as it has a frame underneath the desk as well as the legs, you just can't see it in the pictures.

Hmm I have a galant already... it currently houses 2 monitors, pc keyboard, mouse, gfx tablet and some external HDDs... Maybe I should just buy another / L shaped one to go with it.

Maybe :)

Just check the specs on the site.

Expensive things though for whats essentially a piece of wood, four legs and a frame :p

Yeah that's what kinda puts me off getting another. I wonder how much a bit of chipboard worktop costs...

Kitchen worktops cannot have a rounded corner as standard which cutting etc and would be of poor quality. As I'mk no expert with my wood!

(lol at the above pun)

I'd imagine 25mm mdf would be a bit on the flimsy side for that size desk. I'd deffo buy two and stick them together. You could probably get away with buying a 12mm sheet to make it up to 37mm. I'd drill and countersink the 12mm stuff and then put loads of PVA on and screw the 2 pieces together. Should help to clamp them together and stop them de laminating in future.

Or you could put a brace across to help support the MDF.
