GD may close for a while

Well I guess thats the point. If a thread about GD's problems in GD turns into another rubbish thread, then what hope does GD have?

Did the temporary closure after the "discussion" over the forced avatars make any difference in quality to GD? Maybe it should be temporary closure of a month or so?

Then people might realise whether they miss the forums or not.

As an observation from this thread the Mods and Dons all seem to invest a lot of time in GD. Propbably more than they need to or should do. Maybe then its an issue of their not being enough good quality Dons, UB's etc to police the forums.

Even in my relatively short time here I have seen the forums grow at a rate of knots in terms of members and quantity of posts. Maybe the answer would be to have more UB's to manage the problems like spamming and trolling. I remember a post back when I think Yewen was appointed UB and someone pointed out that the actual mod team had not changed in terms of size. Is that still appropriate for a community of this size ?

Some people like me like to have only there post count that they ahve made all by them self. If i wanted a Huge Post count i would by posts off forum members which people do do.
I dont want to though because its not my posts and my brain thinking up the posts

My original question still applies irrespective of it being temporary or otherwise. Will there be any prior notification to closure? It is not an important question that needs answering, I'll live... Zip on the other hand.

If your post count is a reflection of your commitment, then it will be your post count that's important, not what you've bought

I didn't mean rubbish as in a poor thread because there is debate which is good. What I meant is the whole idea of having this thread is silly... if you get me.

Basically what is the point of starting this thread in the first place? If he is going to close it, it will be closed. If not, why post about it because regardless of how much good debate this thread might generate it wont make a blind bit of difference to GD.

I think GD serves a purpose, an area to let of steam so to speak. Closing will only lead to these unwanted posts leaking out in to all the other forums here. No offence intended: but mods/dons just do what you're here to do...ban and suspend those who are rude, offensive, or just plain stupid. Problem solved and people will start to be more careful with what they say.

Surely that's better than punishing those who enjoy GD for what it is; an area to let off steam, have a joke and generally chit-chat.

Stop being so bloody gentle with them and get them sorted. Edit the offending post/thread..then blooming well suspend/ban the culprit.

People don't want to just talk about games, hardware and Windows all day long and i expect a lot of members will leave...or the forums would be a lot less active.

Also, can't you just ban members from certain forums, eg GD? That would work a treat i'm sure.
