GD may close for a while

Close it

90% of it is permanently utter crap, the other 10% can go in Speakers Corner or the other forums.

As someone just said, GD-type forums all over the web are the same - OcUK isn't unique in that regard. I think the solution is active moderating of crap threads and rule-breaking posts. Then again if the CTRL+V thread isn't considered crap then I have to wonder what is

People are really exagerating how bad GD is. Compared to 99% of other forums it's a utopian soceity. Sure there are some threads that aren't too interesting but I don't see much bickering at all.

I think this is a good idea - the quality of posts are generally ruined by pathetic answers and spammed remarks which detracts from the OP's original query/question etc. If you want a straight forward answer then GD isnt a forum for posting unfortunately.

I dunno DD, some of the Ctrl-V's are quite interesting in a light-hearted way, I'd say a Ctrl-V thread far exceeds something like 'How do I cook beans on toast' or suchlike

Seems a bit "lame" to close the forum due to reasons that about 2 people care about. I don't notice any of the crap that gets posted, lets just say my eyes filter out like it does with website banners and google adverts.

Indeed, in the context of things this entire forum is minor in terms of bickering purely because of the 'rules'.

I think such threads would be targeted with extreme prejudice if they appear outside GD

The only forum I can see some GD-style threads spilling into, would be Speakers Corner.

Instead of closing GD, I believe it should be more tightly moderated. Admittedly OCUK GD is a lot better than other forum GD...
