GD may close for a while

although i dont post threads in GD

i do enjoy reading the relationship one's

and what about the all the photoshop threads, are they spam

as said before if we kill threads the instant they are created we might not have had gems like williams comic strip thread

So where am i supposed to post genuine day to day questions which are important or urgent, maybe an important question regarding something that i am to face?

In the Windows and other software forum??

I think not

I went away to think about this before posting, here are my own personal conclusions.
There are many ways to look at this and lets be honest here only one that is really important, that being Spie and Spies' business. We may be emotional about the place but that's the bottom line.
Having said that i don't think it would be good for business to close GD. I see GD as a stepping stone to the other more serious sections.
I for one came here for advise and tech knowledge which led on to sales for OcUk. Becoming a part of the community has led me to recommend Oc to other gamers i meet online. The community side of the boards is what makes me feel associated with the place and leads me to recommend Oc and to purchase All my hardware from them.
The depth of knowledge in some sections is something the Owner should be proud of as it reflects directly on his business.
The Massive community side of the boards should also be something to be proud of.
For me closing the GD section would be an admission that the Mods cannot cope. Now this confuses me as they have always coped admirably in the past.
Joe public who pops his head round the door will always break rules and make mistakes, whether they are punished, take it and stick around is up to them.
I think if anything needs to be done it's a re-evaluation of rules and standards expected layed out clearly in a sticky.
Like a code of conduct sort of thing.
This would reset the counters for everyone and we could all start again a fresh. :)
We all read the new code from Day1 anybody deviates they get jumped on.
The OcUK i know and love. :p

Take the bickering, insults and rule-breaking out of GD, and half the problem is solved in my opinion.

Thats become harder and harder recently, this is meant to be a forum for hardware enthusiasts primarily so the focus should be kept on the hardware.

Yeah, But GD is there to cover everything that isn't computer related?

More MOD's in GD?
It might be easier said than done, I'm not experienced in these matters

Agreed, I think what is missing from GD is just some basic common sense.

Unfortunately, some of the posts in this thread are not doing much for the save GD cause. Surely we can at least agree to disagree! :)

But i dont like reading through posts like that, It just bores me and by the time ive done reading a post like that im so bored i just come back to GD

SC to me is to angry, political, "Correct" and boring.

You took part in the long GD thread about the 'foiled terrorist attacks' the other day, which was full of SC regulars - you didn't seem to mind then :)

"Life"

General Discussion

Every mod mods GD.

The people listed deal with user issues in GD and the RTM posts. Thats all. :)

You could ask people in the real world?

This is entirely my point. malc30 had it right aswell. Without GD this forum is just another hardware forum, nothing special. Gems like "What do I do with 400 toilet rolls" make this forum shine and shouldn't be tossed away because of over zealous spammers/bickering. Just lay down the line harder.

Wrong!

It's a hardware enthusiast forum - was pre-nuke days and should be now.

Bring it on :D

I fully support it.

No, you are so very wrong.

It USED to be a hardware enthusiasts forum. The life sections offered a bit more than that and that stopped the cream of the posters drifting away. Gradually (and with a few stutters along the way) this place became the absolute best forum on the internet by quite some way.

Now look at it? Its the burnt-out shell of its former self. Why?

How long would that take? think of how many people use these forums, iv had questions answere in GD that anybody in my day to day life would not know..

At the end of the day if they didnt want this to happen why did they even introduce the "Life" forums and just keep it all hardware/software/game related.

Its because i caught it at the start and the posts wernt Horrendously long. There was also a lighter side of it due to some other posters popping up every now and then which brakes it up a bit and makes it easy to read :)

I just ignore thread titles that suggest the content isn't going to interest me, and just don't bother reading it.

If everyone did that, instead of filling threads they didn't like with pointless spam, insults and personal attacks, then half of the bickering and name calling would end.

I'm too scared to post in SC at times, I read it and find it quite interesting but I feel a bit shy in that section, as I could post and instantly be thought of as not as intelligent as others, or not politically correct, or something.
GD gives you a break from all the seriousness of SC.

No, YOUR so very wrong.

The cream of the posters were hardware enthusiasts, it has been made the way it is by having to "cater" for all of the non hardware related posts that were creeping in.

It's just got out of hand, and like i have already said, i support it.

If you want a GD forum, go join one im sure that a hardware forum and that can sit happily in your favourites side-by-side.

I wanted to join a hardware forum which i did pre-nuke so i did, in my opinion it's been going downhill for a long time and lost it's focus on what made it great OVERCLOCKING!
