Ive been putting off my gearbox change for a while now, but it whines in third fourth and fifth now. Is there anyway to guage when its gonna fall to pieces or will it just go? It has plenty of oil as a mechanic checked it not long ago and fed it some molyslip. Which did nothing

I can go and get another box tomorrow for £120 with 46k on it and 3 month warranty and pay him 60 quid to fit it and a new clutch (paid seperately). Bargain or complete rip?

You are having a laugh arent you? This is cornwall for one, wages are rubbish and you pay over the odds for car stuff........ I thought it was a reasonable price. I can get one from combellacks but thats miles away and I have to wait for them to take it off the stupid car.

Well I recently paid £100 for a 24k box for my car and £80 fitting, so it works out about the same as I paid which I thought was pretty good.

I'd say go for it. You don't want to end up getting stranded when it does eventually go.

Stupid french cars  The combellacks one is slightly cheaper but as i said its the distance etc. I thought these boxes were pretty bullet proof, I guess I was wrong though! Do you reckon I could try and blag them into throwing in a tacho sensor, or would it be too cheeky?

Germans!

I've been quoted £240 to change the oil & filters in my gearbox, apparently, the job needs doing 3 times to get all the old oil out of the "sealed for life" gearbox....
