Gearbox question

Early in the mornings when leaving for work, my 1st gear is a bit stiff in that I need more than average force to put it into 1st gear. 2nd gear is similar, but needs less force, the others work fine. After two or three shifts into those gears, it works fine.

Is this normal, due to the cold in the night?

Quite normal, my 2.0l Mondeo was the same.

I can barely get the MR2 into 1st when its cold.

my fiesta Mk6 is the same... have to get it rolling in 2nd before putting her into 1st.... bit annoying.

I have the same issue with my 206. Like the engine I think it's just a case of oil needing to warm up and circulate properly. Might be worth having the gearbox oil topped up.

Otherwise just roll with the Morning Glory.

I think all the cars I've had have been like that too. So long as it doesn't need an excessive amount of force then it's normal
