Hello again.

I am just about to begin trying to overclock my shiney new rig. Ive had it built up and completed call of duty (1) on it with no problems at all...now christmas is over with, I have bought F.E.A.R and am going to start it tonite.

I have read the guides on here, and searched around for as much help as I can on my combination, but i guess it isnt harming anyone by sticking up this post.

I have the following, and would appricate any top tips for a first timer.

JeanTech PHONG 2 case
E6300 oem
Artic Freezer 7 Pro
Gigabyte S3 mobo
2Gb (2x1gb) Corsair Value Select RAM
256MB BFG 7600GT
530W Hiper PSU
200Gb Samsung Spinpoint HDD

and a 19" Daewoo clearview widescreen monitor (which, by the by will not work when I connect a DVI cable to it...but will work with a VGA cable with DVI adaptor on it for the card....any ideas??)

Its all aircooled, and runs around a 25-27degrees ambiant room temperature.

Bench at 2.8GHz before going higher. Beyond 2.8 the strap changes (the memory controler goes slower) and you'll loose some memory performace. This can be made up but you have to clock a way to manage it.

Make sure you write down any tips that will reset your pc to a former state should your overclock fail, such as resetting the cmos. Especially if you don't have a separate pc to get online help.

thanks!

I have a laptop with some 3g cards to get me online (as it stands my pc is not connected to anything yet)

I will go tru some basic things in the beginers guide o/c sticky..and see what i get. Hoping to learn a fair bit about all this too.

I will see what happens...also cant wait to get into F.E.A.R, it looks amazing.

Your sig says 945P S3 - if so you're not going to get much of an overclock I'm afraid. You want the GA-P965-S3 for overclocking.

Is that from the Gigabyte utility or from Coretemp? The Gigabyte utility under-reads horribly.

ok....had a bash at my first overclocking (mainly using this as a guide http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17610180&page=1&pp=30&highlight=e6300 )

Got it up to 2.1Ghz.

its idle temp is about 33degrees, and under load its up to 51degrees, is this ok? edit: and whatever Tjunction temp is, thats at 85degrees.

To get this, all i did was up the FSB to 300, and brought the cpu voltage up to 1.45

the memory is at 600 and voltage at 2.10.

ive put up the FSB voltage to +0.1v

Anyone got any suggestions what to do now? I am a bit lost on the memory o/c'ing to be honest..ive got 2Gb (2X1Gb) Corsair Value Select, DDR2 PC5300 (667) RAM
