Gears of war possible problem

I have noticed with gears of war everything loads up with really poor ps1 style textures and then slowly over the course of the next minute or so they gradually sharpen up.

Also a few times when I have joined co-op games on the net textures have just not loaded at all and I have ended up being able to see through walls (but the player models didn't load either so it didn't help).

Is this just a bug with the game or do I have a problem elsewhere?

I was thinking it might be the disc drive since it seems to go mental in GOW, but if its not just me it must be a game bug.

Its just the textures being loaded into system memory. I heard that the defrag tip for Oblivion can help. Forogt how you do it though! :o

Mine does that sometimes at the start of (mainly) online maps. After a few seconds its soon back to high texture glory.

in what way does it go mental ? i find gow to be quieter than other games i have, in terms of disc noise

Same with me, only really seen it in online games and it normally only takes a second or so to load correctly.

Its constantly accessing the drive during GOW, you can hear it going.

I have a launch 360 and I read somewhere that they are known for having noisy dvd drives.

It's not a problem. It's just the game textures are rather large, hence need to be loaded. You can't expect miracles with 512mb of ram, christ BF2 probably wouldn't run on that (well actually it hardly does as I've tried). You also have to factor textures coming off the disk.

Yeah I was a bit concerned the 1st time I saw it, but thinking about it I prefer it loading the game quickly and the update textures as it plays rather than watching it say "Loading" for ages.
