Geek Pet Hates.

Not a hate, but it's dumb to see people do constant laps of checking their favourite sites for updates instead of using RSS.

People that don't understand network latency and the fact that the other side of the world is a very long way away

Also on the google subject..

My girlfriends dad uses google to navigate and uses the search box as a way of looking at his history should he forget what he was on.

Grumble.

People reaching behind MY PC, and screwing in the monitor cable because THEY prefer it this way..

Then 6 months later I go to rip out the monitor cable for some reason, and the PC flies across the desk as I accidentally 'drag it around' because of those stupid screws stopping the cable coming out ..

ALSO people that change the menus to 'Windows Classic' on MY PC because they prefer it to the new type of menus. And do they change it back? Noooo .. that'd be too nice ..

And another one ..

People that think playing PC's for 4 hours a night is sad and tell you this regularly -- but feel perfectly happy watching 6 hours TV a night whatever's on.

You, Britters, are a saddo. Now begone and leave me to my Coronation Street Omnibus!

GRRR!

Is this you then Britboy?? ;)

DAMN them for screwing the cables in!

huh I didn't know that Win+D does it also :p

They do have very subtle differences.

Just thought of another one - typing text into a userform field and then clicking the highlighted NEXT button with the mouse instead of just pressing enter.

ahhh I hate this more than anything else. If I had 2p for every person who has said this to me personally I would have at least 20p :p

What I find worse is when people say it to others on the internet (forum, facebook, chatroom or whatever). Its like well what are you doing at the moment ?!?! :D

People that use Win+M instead of Win+D which is so much more convenient for your (free) left hand!

;)

You're right in that they both do much the same thing (although not quite) but I don't find it a stretch to use Win+M, it's just as easy for me as Win+D. If I wasn't using a laptop most of the time at the moment then that might be different.

People using Google to get to websites. E.g. people navigating to google to then type facebook into google, and then selecting facebook from the search results. Oh dear god why?!

I do this sometimes because I'm using a shared computer and don't necessarily want OcUK to appear in the drop down listing in the address bar - there's not any particular point to my doing so but that is why I do it sometimes.

People who still type with one f---i-----n----g----e----r.....a---t
.......a....t----i---m--e. Drives me mad, learn to type properly its not hard!.

People who don't even take 5 minutes to learn the basic operations/points of their pc because it was bought from pcworld and it wont ever go wrong...ever.

People who use spyware filled programs instead of bit torrent.

People emptying their recycling bin.
Using spaces instead of tabs.
Reaching for the mouse everytime they want to switch fields in a form.
People emptying the deleted email folder everytime they delete an email.
Getting terminology wrong.
People who start giving advice based on what they had done to their system last time it had issues - defragging the drive 15 times a day isn't going to help.
Thinking that their pc is broken just because they have lost internet connection.

Plenty more but that's just off the top of my head.
