hi, well i been job hunting for a while now and today i got a telephone interview for best buy geek squad and i passed to the next stage. now i know how to build a computer with my eyes closed but geek squad repairs OEM computers, macs, phones and general electronics.

so i was hoping people who work in best buy or any similar electronics retailers like ******* (tech guys) may give me a list of thing they may ask or test me in.

the interview is on the 22nd sat and there will be theory, practical and a interview.

TBH
i never used a MAC for anything more than browsing(on mates mac), and usually if anything goes wrong i normally will reformat the computer.

thanks :D

I think you may need to hone your troubleshooting skills if your default action is to re-format :)

Indeed...Look in the general hardware section for posts relating to issues...then read through the posts for fixes...Troubleshooting will be an everyday occurance in the job should you get it!

I looked at that company once, but theyre too far from me I believe (or were)

Do you have an IT qualification?

If you do, the theory/pratical should be very easy as they are very basic questions on simple things like, removing programs/viruses, rebuilding computers etc..

other than GCSE nope.

BUT i have electronic engineering Btec and degree, in btec i learnt all this:
removing programs/viruses, rebuilding computers
in degree i learnt theroy of internet protocols, RIP and OSPF protocols, Ethernet packets, 7 layers OSI modle

oh and i don't always reformat i meant i would try and fix it, depending what it is like driver issues, reinstalling applications, reg fix, clean the computer up, msconfig and defrag. but if those fail i simple reformat, i was wondering do people that work there go as far as manually changing register values and using ms dos to change config files and stuff like that.

also thoery.....

u mean things like how to boot from a CD, how to setup printers and stuff

and not...

Well you can stay away from my Macs then... :D

I doubt there would be any questions on Macs anyway. Most people who have them tend to have Apple Care.

Atleast you didn't get the test I was given at a previous job (Wont mention the company name) but had about 5-6 questions on the ports on the back of the machine, wasnt allowed to look on my pc, but they had a pc sat right infront of me, with the back / ports facing me....that was hard :)
