I find this quite true even though this is in Canada the same issue is around in this area too - I fix local machines for people in my area at £25 cash regardless of what needs doing which I think is very reasonable but there are other people who do the same and local pc shops that charge £75/£50/hr and extra to keep the machine over night as well as a callout charge and do not offer a one to one service - people are just getting ripped off IMO and this video shows that!
Canada was shocked to its honest-to-goodness core this week by the news that the country's PC repairmen are undermining its sweet as maple syrup image.
Canadian TV show CBC Marketplace did a hidden camera investigation into computer repair firms to see how many technicians could correctly fix a hardware problem.

- I've been doing this for years and no job has ever taken more than 2-3 hours at most and I've fixed a big variation in problems from hardware to software! Installing hardware takes a few mins and after that I plug their pc into the home lan and do all software jobs via remote desktop from my PC so I can watch a film or whatever whilst it does its thing.
