Hey guys,

I recently added a geforce 4 ti4200 into one of my pc's - now when I play anyting that involves media player, the whole system instantly locks up when the file is about to begin playing. I have tried numous nvidia drivers, only one of which let the video's play and then locked up again once I reopened the files. I have also tried reinstalling windows and that also makes no difference. The only times is seems to not lock up is when there are no drivers installed (the windows default) which is when the card runs at a low resolution.

What can I do to solve this problem? I also tried omega drivers, they do the same thing.

Games run fine but there has always been artifacting which is no concern since I dont use the card for gaming.

ANy help appreciated,

RoachycaL

One of two things:

a) The card is borked (as proven by the artifacting) and it's finally starting to give up the ghost altogether.

b) The drivers don't support and/or aren't happy with that card - which wouldn't surprise me. I have an FX5200 here as a spare card, it won't get into XP with any drivers apart from the ones on the installation CD, even the newest ones.

Personally I think it's going to be a comination of the two. :)

Thanks for the reply,

unfortunatly Ive lost the driver cd, its a sparkle version and all the links are broken for the drivers on their site. As for the artifacting - I do remember it doing it more with some versions of the drivers. Im really getting frustrated by this :(

If it's artifacting then it's a very good sign the card is broken. Most of the cards I have had that started doing it have died completely pretty soon after.

Does it get through 3dmark01? Or crash?

Aint tried that - might do later, I ordered the arctic silencer for it hoping that would cool it down as it does run hot - then realised the site that send me it send me the wrong one :@. I put some new thermal paste on today and that has helped a lot. It used to freeze in games etc and now I just get little bits of white snow here and there :( Do you know where I could get another cheaply? They still seem to keep going for ridiculous prices on the bay :p

If all you want it for is Media Player then the way to go is by going on the main site and ordering the cheapest you can find.

I'm guessing a 9250SE would give you what you need, for £35.
