Hi,

I'm a complete newbie so please bear with me ..........

I have an Asus i7 laptop with onboard Intel graphics chip and a GT 650 M
graphics adaptor.

I've just bought an AOC q2770Pqu monitor.

I cannot get the resolution above 1920 x 1080 using Intel or NVidia.

Would someone be kind enough to guide me through the process please.

thanks.

That monitors native resolution is 2560x1440@60Hz

How are you connecting to the monitor? You need to use Displayport or Dual Link DVI, not VGA or HDMI.

This the correct answer, without using either of those connections you will be limited to 1920x1080.

VGA does not support higher than 1920x1080 I believe.

I think the limit was actually 2048x1536 (as I'm sure there were some Sony CRT monitors that did that back in the day)

True but when you are talking laptops more often than not anything over 1920x1080@60Hz actually working can be hit and miss. On my Samsung getting 120+Hz monitors to work even at 1920x1080 requires a pretty short DP cable (anything over about 1 meter just plain doesn't work with my ROG Swift) - anything else either frequently times out or just plain doesn't support higher resolution/refresh rate.

EDIT: Just for clarity off my GTX675M displayport - 2560x1440@60Hz works to atleast 2 meters (not tried longer), 2560x1440@120Hz gets pretty flaky much over 1m, 1920x1080@120Hz gets flaky beyond 1.8m.

If you are running optimus then the IGP handles all display outputs, use it to figure out what each port is capable of. The Nvidia GPU is simply not used for this.

sry for asking again what port are you using ?

Thanks for the reply.

I don't know what you mean !

I have just connected the hdmi end of the cable to the laptop's hdmi output, and the Dvi to the monitor's input.

Are you saying that I should be configuring a port ?

Sorry to be a dummie.

Thanks.

The issue now is that the HDMI port on the laptop does not support 2 links. HDMI is basically Single Link DVI in a different connector, the connector on the other end might be a dual link DVI connector but the 2nd TMDS link is not connected to anything.

What display outputs does the laptop have? Is there Displayport? If there is no Displayport or DVI-D on the laptop, this will never work, converting from VGA or HDMI will not work.

I have a alienware m14xR2, it has a GT650m, it has DVI and HDMI and Mini Displayport. The DVI and HDMI come from the Intel GPU, and optimus works fine. I can connect to my Dell WFP3007-HC at 2560x1600@60hz with it.

The Mini Displayport is actually directly on the nVidia GPU, and I can run my RoG Swift on it at 2560x1440@144hz. I can even use GSync.

Edit: Looked at pics of your laptop on google, you only have HDMI and VGA, there is no way for you to get this laptop to output at 2560x1440, it will not work. Sorry :(

Thanks again for the replies.

I'm not using it for gaming, so lag would not be an issue.
I need it for photo editing.

If you could give me a link to the exact cable needed, I'd be most grateful.

Many thanks again.
