GeForce GTX280 folds three times faster...

I'm really looking at this as one of the reasons for a card upgrade, anyone know when the client will be out, and shouldn't it be compatible with current G80 cards too if it's using CUDA?

If I'm reading you rightly I think we're on the same side of the argument... All I want to know is whether a card is going to be a good investment. At the moment, for me, the cards (nor the ps3) don't produce enough points to justify the wattage. Of course faster processing does not equal proportionally more points, we already see that with the ps3 client.

I was just saying it wouldnt be that different. But looks like i was completely wrong. The gtx 280 can hit 8000+ ppd. Seeing as they didnt make a separate gpu client for nvidia cards, it seems that they cant reduce this without adversely affecting all previous cards.

I dont know how theyll keep people on the SMP clients now if everyone gets a 48xx or gtx 2x0 card. From what Ive read the SMP clients do the most important work.

Most important work? I suppose that they need time to process results anyway so if there are a lot of GPU results those can be analyzed while people return to SMP then?

Nehalem is out within a year anyway, octocore, higher clock speeds + more IPC, it will hopefully cut through the non-GPU WUs.
