Geforce Now - Out Of Beta

Wonder how long the Founders membership is available for. I can't see I'd use it that much but 90 days free is a bit of a bargain. I suspect the system is getting a bit hammered since all the media have published their blurb.

So the sign up is all working now. Has anyone had a go with it yet?

EDIT: Bugger it. I've signed up. £4.99 a month for the next year is pretty good. Should be interesting to try next gen Xbox games on this service as that console will be better than my current PC.

And then I realise it's not 4K, just 1080p.

So what's a good game to test the 2080 GPU out on?

Took Assassin's Creed Odyssey for a spin with everything at maxed out settings at 1080p. Played nicely, a few stutters here and there, I'm not sure what was causing them. Lag was imperceptible to me but the worst thing was the ghastly upscaling. Playing on my 4K TV, at the almost-touching distance I am, I could see the blocks making up text. But sitting back a bit further and that issue went away.

Not sure whether I'd really use it though. I don't have an Android phone for mobile play. If it was 4K, I'd be 100% more interested but restricting to 1080p is not going to do it for me. I suppose 4K will eventually come along though. If Stadia can do it, I'm sure nVidia can.

Yeah that is one thing I was really cautious about. I used an old Uplay account that I wouldn’t mind losing access to in the worst case scenario but there’s no way I’m putting my Steam login details in.

I've tried it, and to be honest this is like an entry level for console gamers who don't have a console. A massive plus for them would be the ability to buy PC games at PC prices from the likes of Steam etc. I actually can't see how Google Stadia can be anything but dead now that it's up against this.

For me personally, it's nowhere near a substitute for dedicated PC hardware. A brief list of cons are:

  • Input lag, even on 50Mb
  • Colour reproduction; it's washed out looking
  • Security of 3rd party account details
  • Restricted to 1080p (ugh!)
  • Judder due to < 60fps
I'll keep the free trial going in case things improve over the next 90 days, but I can't see me making any use out of this.

Will also be changing my Steam login details...

For me personally 1080p 60 is just meh, and it's lower than that even, because of streaming quality loss. I'll wait for 4K. At least on PC. I can already do 1080p >60 very easily (and it's cheap enough for anyone imo).

With a smartphone/tablet on the other hand... we'll see how it does. I wanna try Xcom 2 on it, that would be great.

Just signed up and given witcher a go at ultra and it is very good. I really can't see the input lag TBH. I will give it a bash on my Mrs laptop later and see if that makes a difference as it is pretty rubbish. However as it stand I am very impressed.

Just need to add GTA etc

Will be interesting to see how much space they give you for your library

download speed was not bad :D

Right, so got a moment to try it out on mobile & I have to say, I'm a convert. It's not ideal, because I'm using the xbox gamepad through bluetooth and that latency is killing me, and there's also still some jitters (14ms) even right next to a very capable router on a 1 Gb connection, but playing Xcom 2 on mobile, oh god, it's pure bliss! I think in a couple of years as 5G rolls out and the tech becomes even better, there's some real gold here for on the go gaming, or simply off-site. But it's not quite there yet when the wi-fi connection is anything but perfect. I mean it's playable but it's not that enjoyabled when it jitters/lags/delays etc. Very happy with IQ on mobile tho. Overall, would definitely recommend ppl give it a go!

I tried on my android (Mi9t Pro) and it went badly. I need to try a different gamepad.
After using streaming from steam to my lappy for gaming even on the best settings you can clearly see artifacting (video compression) and I expect this will be same on gforce now . Might be OK on a phone or small tablet but on a pc or TV it's horrible. I'm not over sensitive to input lag as many but yes it's there.
Lots to improve on streaming in my opinion.

Gorgeous. I need to get a clip!

Just tried this, played Overwatch on my Pixel 4 with my bluetooth keyboard and a OTG mouse.

I can see this being quite handy as I took my Windows install off my MacBook. but now would be able to play Overwatch on that, which would be pretty cool :)
