Geforce Now....What a waste of time that was.

I love when people come out initially saying "oh this will never catch on because x". The lack of foresight here is astounding. This has a massive market and works very, very well and has done for years on various platforms. Call it "GaaS" if you want (Gaming as a Service) but it could well be the future for a LOT of people.

I tried it on an old laptop, but it was below the standard so didn't work, but tried it on my surface pro and it worked really well, can definitely see a market for it, especially with gpu prices so high and no need for a gaming PC in space limited locations. Just hope it gets developed more and doesn't get priced to high. I already have a 1080ti PC so not for me though :)

Ive just got my beta code.

I feel a bit uneasy about giving them my Steam login details though.

edit*

Just had a go of a couple of games, Wolfenstein old blood and Metro last light.

Seems very playable, Ive got 37Mbs here but it classed that as may be choppy.

Something just doesnt look the same though with the graphics, seemed to be a blurry layer over the screen.

For someone who doesnt have a beefy PC these days i think its a good option.

This is a game changer for me personally, in fact I sold my noisy heavy Alienware laptop that I had just bought and use it on my Macbook Pro. I tried GTA V and the steam install was ridiculously quick and there is no lag as far I can tell, even on a bog standard Virgin Wireless hub, also played some Portal and Overwatch without issues, macbook just handles it effortlessly and silently. Its free at the moment but I would think £20 a month or there about for this would be excellent value when it eventully goes the paid route.

So I signed up for the beta of this months ago, forgot about it, then this morning get an Email saying I'm now in the Beta, installs it...and then promptly discovers you can only stream games you already own, I mean, wut!!

I thought the whole point of these streaming services was to gain access to a large library of games your potato PC couldn't possibly run.

So Nvdia expect people to buy games knowing they can't possibly run them locally but only stream them via Nvidia's servers.

Stupid, utterly stupid idea & uninstalled the client, never to return.

When you 'sign-up' for things, the whole point is that they can use your data for profit, one way or another.

And look what just landed in my inbox...

Signed up today. Made the same mistake as the OP; thought it was access to a library of games for a monthly sub (with a free beta). The list of games blew me away until I discovered the truth; that you need to own the game as well. Think they're dreaming with this one, given the quoted price ($25 for 20 hours).

I'll give it a go. There's zero chance of me paying for it though.

Now I've tried it, I'm impressed. Runs well enough that I wouldn't need a gaming PC, if the price was right. I expect that will be the problem though; getting the price to something that's even vaguely reasonable.

I long for the day I can stream to a Nintendo switch! That for me is the ultimate use case.

Stop, I can only get so aroused.

In all seriousness, that would be amazing at home! However, this is Nintendo... "NO! You no stream game unless you pay triple the price compared to all other gaming platforms!"

Who mentioned Nintendo allowing it?

Anything like this will almost certainly come through the hacking scene. Local streaming will almost certainly happen. A port of Android is probable. A version of Shield TV running on the Switch, possible.

True, feels like Nintendo has dropped the Switch anyway, it's been over a year since release and you still can't even watch youtube on the damn thing nor even have custom themes? I kind of regret buying it as a device, but thankfully some of the games made up for it's cost.
